About this deal

Zander is broody, serious and This book is hard to pin down. I can’t tell if it has more witchy, vampiric, elves-ish, or cult-ish aesthetic. I suppose there are mixes of those elements. In any case, I recommend it if:

This book is low spice, but steamy. Honestly though, it worked for the series- romance is very much a side plot in this book. y'all know how much i enjoyed the previous books but one thing i will not do is lie in a review, even if it's a book i fairly enjoyed because objectively this is a disappointing sequel. i did not care for the new romance at all. they absolutely had no reason whatsoever to like notice each other, much less be attracted to one another. it felt forced by the author just so we'd have a new romance to root for. not to mention, the power dynamics between a mortal and an immortal in this political climate? just no... and i was also not a fan of the multi POVs. it dragged the entire book and so i felt that the plot was barely moving for 70% of the novel. you see, what i like about Romeria as the main character is that she will definitely stir the pot and DO SOMETHING. she will move the plot and is innately incapable of staying still. it was only until the last 30% that something started happening and it was all because Romeria moved! i'm sorry to say that the rest of the characters are useless. their purpose was only to relay the important information to the reader and Romeria, but honestly we could've done without it considering the discoveries in Ulysede. This was one of my most anticipated releases of the entire year. I've been anxiously awaiting this new book since finishing book 2. And wow did this not disappoint. Thank you SO much to Valentine PR and the author for sending me an advanced copy!! All thoughts and opinions are still my own. So in this book we have Romy, a gifted thief, who is pulled into another realm by a mysterious woman called Sofie. The only warning she gets is to keep her identity a secret, with no mention of the fact that the body she has woken up in has murdered the royal family and is now fated to be burnt alive at the stake. With no choice she must try to convince the new King-a man who has been betrayed terribly by the previous owner of her body and now despises her-that she can help him uncover the traitor in his court. But with no way home, and danger lurking in every shadow, how will Romy survive in this new world? And can she still go through with her ruse when she uncovers the dark secret the King is hiding from her?

It was a bit of a slog to get through and the politics, intrigue, and mystery have fried my brain cells leaving only two of them left, but— Admittedly it took me a hot minute to get into. I even put it down for a day because I knew this was a story that I have to be in the right mood to get into. There's so much world building that takes place, and it took me almost 60% to fully wrap my head around all of it. Be prepared to be confused most of the story too. But that's quite intentional as we spent the majority of the book in the heroine's head, and she has no idea what's going on and you get to experience that with her. Oh... did I mention that she was plunged into a world that considers her a murderess and is sentenced to death by none other than her betrothed? An enchanting and incredibly well written book with outstanding world building and the kind of deeply rooted character development I love.' 5* reader review

I REALLY DID NOT LIKE ROMERIA and I think that was my biggest issue with the book. She felt so bland to me. Like why was she even characterized as a thief when she never used her thievery skills?! She just kind of remained trapped in her room, attended meetings when she was requested to, talked to her new friends, etc. I was waiting for her to do something badass or surprising but it never really happened, which greatly disappointed me She would know the world of vengeful gods and monsters, and the length one would go for love. And nothing would ever be the same for her again.
