About this deal

You’ve had a look online and you’ve seen an amazing looking deal on a blown air diesel heater. It comes from an unknown company but the model unit looks familiar in shape. That cheap deal you saw for just a couple hundred dollars/euros/pounds online is likely too good to be true. Once you’re all warm and toasty, it’s time to turn the diesel heater off and conserve your fuel for next time.

Models include the Airtronic D2 and S2 D2L (<32ft LOA), D4+ and M2 D4L (26-39ft), D5 (36-49ft) and the D8LC (49-62ft). If you plan on living in your campervan during the winter months, you’re going to need a way to keep warm. No matter how well-insulated your campervan conversion may be, things can get pretty uncomfortable once the temperatures really start to drop. The fuel line will connect to the diesel tank, with the connection of a fuel pump and fuel filter along the way. Note that the angle of the fuel pump (once mounted) needs to be between 15 – 35º.

A diesel heater is an instantaneous heating system for the interior of cars, boats, sheds, and other closed-off areas. It brings air in through an exterior intake pipe, mixing it with diesel fuel and lighting it on fire in the combustion compartment. A heat exchanger's huge surface area is heated during this operation. Renewable materials are used in its construction, although it retains high-grade aluminium components where necessary.

This model also comes with a silencer which makes the heater that much quieter. There is however, some noise from the pump whilst the heater is running. Separate silencers are available to buy if required. This crucial safety element ensures the occupants' safety, which aids in preventing carbon monoxide poisoning. The diesel heater delivers immediate warmth and is simple to operate to maintain the optimum cabin temperature. If you’re looking for a heater with a warranty and longevity, opt for the more premium models. Budget heaters use cheaper materials which are more likely to fail over the shorter term and warranties are non-existent. Fuel efficiency Fuelled by red or clear diesel, fed from from its own gravity tank – Header tank version – or pumped direct from the boat’s supply – main fuel tank version. Now that you’ve had a chance to play around with the heater settings, it’s now time to pair up your Chinese diesel heater controller to the LCD monitor. No more getting out of bed on a frosty morning to turn the diesel heater on!

Clamp joiners on each end of the fuel pump & fuel filter. Mount both underneath the van with the filter closest to the tank. Both need to be angled between 15 – 35º.

Marine heater safety

Its Autoterm Air marine range comprises a 2kW and 4kW heater; however, larger units can be made specifically to suit. Usually you don’t have to go digging to find out if your Chinese diesel heater is throwing an error code. It will most likely be taking centre stage on your LCD monitor.

Diesel heaters can be quite noisy, and this is a major downside for some folks. Light sleepers might have a hard time when some diesel heaters are starting up or shutting down, especially when they’re operating on the highest settings. Attach exhaust pipe & muffler to the bottom of the heater underneath the van. Mount muffler with drainage hole angled down to the ground and the exhaust directed away from the caravan. Automotive heaters are designed to be fitted externally, so do not require the same standard of air-tightness on the joins around the exhaust and on the welds around the silencer. The Webasto Air Top EVO 40 is compact, quiet, and economical heater requiring from 0.18 to 0.43 litres of diesel per hour. On the other hand, if you install a heater that’s too small for the amount of space you have, it’ll need to run on the highest setting all the time. You’ll use more fuel this way, and the fan constantly running will end up being a power drain.

2kW Diesel Heater: Big enough for most caravans

The Refleks stoves are popular with more traditional year round cruisers. Seen in working boats, fishing boats and a wide array of sail boats and traditional motor cruisers, the Refleks diesel heaters are king of the cold. They’re sturdy drip fed units that radiate heat rather than blow it around. The larger Refleks stove heater models have additional internal pipework that allows further radiator heat or hot water heating. This small unit is the most basic and most budget friendly though and considered practically bomb proof. The advantage of the drip fed heaters is that you don’t get the loud exhaust noise associated with blown air diesel heaters. If you have limited installation space or want to match a larger fuel tank, a split-type parking heater is a better choice. It features a compact size, occupies little space, and can be matched with a 10L or even big oil tank to prolong the combustion time.
