About this deal

Maybe I identified with the 20 something lead character who was a fairly mediocre teacher wishing to be something else, pining over the love of his life who had cruelly dumped him and generally muddling along waiting for something exciting to happen. We knew this world only too well – the same world as the video for Babies, which somehow looked like a glossy ITV pop show, a low budget early seventies German ‘adult’ comedy film and a filmed insert from You And Me all at once – and if it had previously felt like you just couldn’t say these things, Jarvis Cocker had just gone ahead and said them and somehow changed everything. There’s Alice (who remembers his birthday), Simon (who doesn’t), Kate (the previous tenant of his rented hovel). A book celebrating sixty years of Doctor Who from the makers of Doctor Who Magazine including chapters by me on Doctor Who on the radio, Doctor Who on Blue Peter and the history of the Doctor Who theme.

It’s been three years since his heartthrob, Agnes, wrecked his life with a chat that started, “It’s like that song. I found the main character Will annoying and not very likeable but I was still engaged enough to find out how the book ended. There's Alice (who remembers his birthday), Simon (who doesn't), Martina (the one-night stand), Kate (the previous tenant of his rented Archway fleapit) and of course Aggi - the inimitable Aggi. They also provided a lot of the book’s nostalgia, reminding me of when I would spend hours on the phone talking to friends or loved ones. I’ve been a huge fan of his books ever since reading All the Lonely People – yes, I know I was late to the party – so I couldn’t wait to finally read the book that started it all. Whilst I was willing Will to snap out of his love sick trance through most of the story, overall it was an enjoyable read with a really sweet ending. Y'know, sometimes, when we're lying together, and I know you're asleep, I can hear the soft sound of your breathing. The book was so good that I immediately started looking at other male `Lad Lit' authors and Mike Gayle was one that I had heard of and was incredibly popular.

Fresh, endearing, and full of humor, My Legendary Girlfriend tells a story that will ring true for everyone who’s ever tried to mend a broken heart. I enjoy a lot of British humor - books, TV shows, movies, comics, etc - and this just has a completely different pacing than a usual American comedic novel. We start in his girlfriend’s bedroom – they’ve “finally made it”, she’s asleep, but something’s nagging at him. It’s very much about unacquainted love and putting that someone on a pedestal, so much so that it holds the other person back from getting on with their life. I then shot some stuff of my girlfriend of the time but then split up with her and became too depressed to use it… hmmm.My books blend black humour with light horror, crossing genres with ordinary characters dealing with extraordinary circumstances. I’ve read pretty much all of Gayle’s work, and this is my second time on this one, and I think I can safely say that while it’s still an entertaining story, he’s still learning and they get better. um lugar comum que muitos irão revisitar e uma oportunidade imperdível para nos rirmos de nós mesmos! In his decrepit flat where he can't even manage to cook spaghetti hoops without setting off the communal smoke alarm, his lifeline is the telephone.

But yet there’s something about him that is still engaging, making you keep reading and not quite give up on him, even if you’re shouting at him in your head the whole time. Garreth joins Tim for a chat about Peter Parker, Angelica Jones and Bobby Drake very occasionally remembering to mention that they are also supposed to be at college in Spider-Man And His Amazing Friends. This didn’t happen however and following a slight detour in his five-year plan he ended up as an agony uncle for teenage girls’ magazine Bliss before becoming Features Editor on the now much missed Just Seventeen. U. (Gone, Gone), Sheffield: Sex City, Stacks, Inside Susan, 59 Lyndhurst Grove and the similarly unshabby Styloroc: Nites Of Suburbia and Space – found its way onto Intro: The Gift Recordings, a compilation of tracks from those three singles intended as a relaunch and reintroduction for a wider audience.Gayle's debut novels typifies his body of work of male centric stories set in and around relationships with some light humour, self deprecation and some well thought out and masterly dictated life lessons for . De facto, dá alguns ares à Bridget; porém, ao focar-se num homem como personagem central, contém detalhes q. My Legendary Girlfriend draws from the song of his you’re most likely to have heard – though if you’ve been listening to Heart FM they’ve been depriving you of the vital section. The writing was good, and there were certainly moments that made me chuckle, but that alone was not enough for me to actually feel like I enjoyed the book. and “no cheese tonight” – the BBC soundcheck version “girl over there with the hot pants on” and our first sighting of “that bloke who tries to sell you felt tip pens”.
