About this deal

Overall, this series is pretty fun, but I have to admit I didn't like this one nearly as much as the previous two.

The main focus of the story is that acceleration and culmination of Banecroft’s own personal hell – a storyline that has been building since the beginning of the first book.

This third installment of what has quickly become my favorite Urban Fantasy series played with some of the narrative threads explored in the previous books and moved forward in a very intriguing and quite satisfactory way, offering the by now familiar mix of humor and drama while at the same time delving deeper into some of the main characters, bringing to the surface a few unexpected facets of their personalities.

Simon Brush’s ghost is still channeling Charlotte Banecroft, Ox and Reggie are getting in even more trouble than usual, Grace is having a meltdown, Stella is still battling her own…self and Hannah is considering getting back with her ex. Vincent Banecroft, the irascible editor of The Stranger Times, has never believed his wife died despite emphatic evidence to the contrary. Unlike the previous two books in the series, Love Will Tear Us Apart does not follow the team as a whole but rather sends them all in different directions, engaged in different adventures, and that gives them a chance to experience some individual growth as characters: such is the case, for example, of shrouded-in-mystery Stella whose bizarrely awkward partnership with Betty takes her for once out of the confines of the paper – even though it’s for a very harrowing grave-robbing expedition; she also turns into a more hands-on member of the team when the infamous Loon Day comes around once again and the Stranger Times is literally inundated by a mob of more or less crazy people eager to share their tales of the uncanny with the staff. His debut novel, A Man With One of Those Faces - a comic crime novel - was published in 2016 and spawned The Dublin Trilogy books and the spin-off McGarry Stateside series.is a former stand up comedian who has created a world (a slightly different Manchester) that I would love to visit but certainly not like to stay!

You made me snort with laughter, you made me shout at the staff of The Stranger Times to run faster before something bad happened, you made me cry. The woman brought in to replace Hannah as assistant editor, we’re not sure whether she’s on our (the newspapers) side, but her addition added plenty of humour, mystery and some excellent action scenes to the story.I wept real tears as he finally reaches breaking point, having been tortured in the cruellest way imaginable, via his all-consuming love for his wife.

As if that wasn't enough, one of the paper's ex-columnists has disappeared, a particularly impressive trick seeing as he never existed in the first place. The mysteries that tie the whole story together are perfectly formed and executed and the author appears to be building a whole world that could continue on and on. I did like that it also revealed a bit more behind the scenes of the magical world and characters we've only seen more superficially so far. Because I find them a bit too over the top and frankly quite tedious, except for that one grand lady, giving me huge Maggie Smith vibes. The Stranger Times gang interacting and their banter are what I've grown to really like with this series. Hannah - the assistant editor - has left, gone back to her ex husband, and Banecroft is more deranged than ever.
