About this deal

If you are still hooked on the series then don't hesitate to read "These High Green Hills" which is number 3 in the series.

Instead of his sister he finds Margerete has been passing herself off as Annegret and is immediately angered. I did feel this read very much like a short story as the pages seemed to fly by and before I knew it I had reached the end. Forced to surrender her identity and all ties to her homeland, Constance finds herself drawn into a complex web of deception, the repercussions of which will affect generations to come . Though ‘A Light in the Window’ is a work of historical fiction it is told against the factual settings of mainly Berlin and Paris over December 1941 and January 1942. Marguerite lives both sides of the Nazi-Jewish experience as she struggles to stay true to her heritage while still maintaining credibility as a daughter and sister of members of the Nazi hierarchy.

At some point I thought her luck was sure to run out and my heart was in my mouth many a time throughout the story. This story certainly did that and I found myself at times wanting to bang my head on my table because Wilhelm was really trying my patience!

In the end notes by the author she explains how this book was inspired by a short story that she wrote and she wished to explore how Margarete’s story continued once the dust had cleared from the rubble.

I was nearing the 90% mark of the story and I still felt there was so much more left to be explored. He is distraught to discover that the inheritance he had hoped for will not materialise until he marries and produces a male heir. Where they were denied any contact with the outside world; denied basic medical treatment and abused for their 'sins'; where, after the birth, they were forced into hard labour in the convent for three years.

After writing several non-fiction books, she felt drawn to the past and the subject of resistance to the Nazi regime.Oh, by the way, after I read the first book I sent an e-mail to Jan and she started me up with a nesletter being sent to my home, about her writing and other things. Berlin, 1941: The story opens with a bang - quite literally - an air raid on the city sees the Hubers scrambling to the safety of their cellar. I think Father Tim took too much time pondering where the relationship was headed but still, all's well that ends well.
