I haven't read the first book in this universe, so my lack of knowledge about the world may be because of that. I understand Gildir and Frila, as it was clear from the beginning that we were never supposed to like them, however Myrinn's betrayal was just so unnecessary. It has been many years since the vampiric disease spread wildly across Darkmourn, making humans a rarity. Ben Anderson has a wonderful way of crafting a world that is full of exceptional characters and fascinating plots. It ends with Faenir threatening to kill people again and because of this, the two groups coming to an agreement to save both worlds. I was hoping that we would get a slow build up of the enemies to friends to lovers, but by the time I was halfway through the book and they still hated each other, I knew I wasn't getting it. While I was still figuring out how this could end, I got a face slapped with the answer in the most surprising way. Again, this heeds back to the lack of detail and rushed writing) and then somehow this turns him into a vampire. The whole plot was too easy and convenient, I predicted everything and wasn't surprised in the slightest at what's happening. I believe this was my first book with elves so I was more nervous as to whether I would like it or not but my worries melted away as I kept reading. Arlo has always taken care of his sister, Auriol, ever since his parents have passed of a terrible sickness he has watched over her.
