While this isn't an overly powerful slate, in everyday use the Fire HD 10 Kids Pro is a smooth performer with no stuttering or lag even in fairly demanding video games, and the user interface is instantly responsive.

However it has so many more features and offers children an excellent, safe experience with increased freedom compared to the cheaper model. It’s something you can set up and then just hand to your kid and not worry about what they are accessing or who they might be communicating with. The time-limit function is especially good, letting you set available screen time by type of content or time of day.
It suits kids who have learned to handle objects gently and are adamant about having outgrown babyish things. After a few months of testing, it's become apparent that the processor is actually good enough—not fast, but it's fine for web browsing and watching videos.
You can shorten that time by using a faster charger; it took about two hours to fully charge with a 30W USB-C charger.
