Is it an allegorical place or state of being, somewhere between darkness and light, living and dying? Throughout the years the city and the surrounding territories have experienced their share of socio-economic struggles and topographic transformations that have altered its identity. Without formal training, he explored mines and ventured to India's Jharkhand state to document coal miners in Dhanbad, known as the "coal capital. At home later that evening, I started decoupaging a binder I had bought to become a journal to help myself work through some pretty rough issues. Shadows, a new collaborative series by Alexandra Grant and Keanu Reeves, explores the real and symbolic nature of the shadow as image and figure of speech.

Grant's photographs capture Reeves's shadow at times as a silhouette and at others as traces of light as he and the camera move together.In transforming the images into color and reversing light for dark, Grant has made the shadows themselves the source of light. However, that said, this has clever and intriguing photos of Keanu rather that water colour doodles, and it is more personal, intimate, in feeling. His work centered on people living ''outside of time'' with traditional jobs and skills that had been passed down through generations. I'd be interested to know how the book was compiled; whether photos were chosen then comments added like an ink blot reaction, or the photos were interpretive.

Is it a metaphor for the intimate, darker side of a persons nature, the unconscious side of ones self, where daemons and secrets are kept hidden or repressed? Several years ago, a treasure trove containing some 6,000 original Bob Dylan manuscripts was revealed to exist. The different colour images are shadows of silhouettes of Keanu Reeves each in a pale colour contrasted on a darker background. The text by Keanu tells the story of someone (like, obviously him) getting up and getting ready for the day.Definitely reflecting personal shadows, which was actually a refreshing change from the typical " you're a butterfly emerging" prose you usually get. The documents, as essential as they are intriguing—draft lyrics, notebooks, and diverse ephemera— comprise one of the most important cultural archives in the modern world. The images reflect the artist's eagerness to assimilate back into a home that feels at once foreign and familiar.
