But then his father told him that they could be the gods they chose to be, and that they didn't have to be the same as the gods who came before them. Not only had the whole Lake of Nine frozen over, but Tyr's Travel Room and all the other realms were locked. The hit game is brought to life in a tangible and exciting new way as readers are invited to plumb the lore of God of War through the eyes of Kratos' son, Atreus. So many games have such rich lore that is sadly left to gather dust in the weeks and months following release. By the end, Faye held a ceremony wherein she and Atreus tossed all of his practice pages into the fire pit while Kratos watched.

So the best parts of this book are the parts that have brand new lore/information--stuff like the pre-game journal entries or the Fimbulwinter sections (which have me stressed for the new game, NGL. God of War is a third person action-adventure video game developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The hit game is brought to life in a tangible and exciting new way as readers are invited to plumb the lore of God of War through the eyes of Kratos's son, Atreus. When Atreus asked Mimir about why Kratos was dispirited, Mimir explained that his father may be the best fighter he'd seen, but this Ragnarok business was to do with fate, and it couldn't be stopped by just fighting.

This lorebook contains storyboards and concept art from the video game, as well as information about the game's development and its characters. His mother was so powerful that she was able to see the whole journey ahead, and he knew her power of prophecy was special. For example, there's a chapter on the Valkyries that not only explains their role in Norse mythology but also provides a detailed walkthrough of how to defeat them in the game. And when they tried to go out to Veithurgard Pass to explore for a while, a huge, freezing cold blizzard swept in from nowhere.

Most of the paragraphs could have been written from any POV and been the same, and this feels a bit of a waste. This hardcover volume chronicles Atreus and Kratos’s journey through the fabled Nine Realms, from the wildwoods of Midgard to the mountains of Jtunheim and beyond.

com/For a bit of background - I loved the latest iteration of God of War in both the story and gameplay, and ended up collecting every possible Playstation Trophy for the game. One time, while Atreus was studying runic charms, he spoke one rune and suddenly he gained a sight, describing it as this warm fluid that moved inside of him. After her death, he had a vision of her looking happy, and he wondered whether she knew everything that was to come. This volume chronicles Atreus and Kratos’ journey through the fabled Nine Realms, from the Wildwoods of Midgard to the mountains of Jötunheim and beyond. He knew that after he found out he was a god, he started to act arrogant and cocky, even to the point of killing Modi.

He wondered if Kratos's lesson about them having "no excuses" to not go where they please, was a good lesson after all. It's cool seeing it written from Atreus's point of view but unless I've got the book open while playing the game, it was pretty dry. It has been a few years since I finished the game but while some aspects of it I still remember vividly others are starting to fade. Before, Mimir explained how people felt a special kind of hate for the ones who kill their children, and that it was possible Freya could come to forgive them, given time. The hit game is brought to life in a tangible and exciting new way as readers are invited to plumb the lore of God of War through the eyes of Kratos’s son, Atreus. The second half the book is the bestiary that catalogues all the monsters, their strengths and powers. It's really interesting reading his comments on the journey in hindsight while also reading on expanded lore. Once I got into the sections that cover lore and enemies that are covered in the game, my interest waned considerably.
