About this deal

If you have read Behind the Mask a lot of the same information is here, but with the benefit of having time to reflect on everything that happened to Tyson throughout his life his early life/career, his breakdown and his second career.

Funny, frank and never less than entertaining, this is Tyson Fury at his very best, as you have never read before. His most famous victory came in 2015, when he stunned longtime champion Wladimir Klitschko to win the WBA, IBF and WBO world heavyweight titles.Tyson also shares a side of him that few people get to see and that in the weeks before the biggest fight of his career in 2021 he was sleeping on the hospital floor in intensive care following the premature birth of his daughter Athena who was fighting for her life. True showman who people either love or hate, you can only appreciate him more after reading this book. He’s a mighty and furious legend, but soft and vulnerable, he shows this in his book and it’s really important to hear about this side.

So open and honest and since watching his struggles with mental health and how honest he is about that side of his life really made me appreciate him as a person a lot. The man himself says it’s just an act, designed to maximise attention and therefore viewers and profit. One expects a multiple world boxing champ to be a chiseled specimen, but somehow this man who describes himself as a "dad-bod" has defeated many of those muscle-bound men. There is no mention, for example, of Daniel Kinahan, the alleged Irish gangster based in Dubai, whom Fury publicly thanked in 2020 for his work as a boxing promoter. Access-all-areas and full of never-before-told stories, Tyson looks back on his life and career to examine what's really defined him: his Travelling upbringing, his fighting family (including his dad John and his half-brother Tommy), his beloved wife Paris, his 6 beautiful children, his mental health battles, his faith, his boxing rivalries and the fights, pitfalls and challenges along the way. Born and raised in Manchester, Fury weighed just 1lb at birth after being born three months premature.

He describes how his Traveller upbringing forged him, and how his fighting family, including dad John and his brothers, have sustained him. Boxing is a very particular kind of sport, with one foot in the entertainment world and another in murky backrooms. The undefeated heavyweight champion Tyson Fury looks back on his life and career to understand his remarkable rise, fall, and rise again, which has seen him journey from the brink of suicide to boxing immortality, culminating in his sensational knockout victory against Dillian Whyte at Wembley Stadium in front of a record-breaking 94,000 fans. He lives with his wife Paris and seven children in Morecambe, and most mornings can be found running and training along Morecambe Bay. This book allowed me to make important reflections on my own faith and mental health, thank you for sharing your story Tyson.

It's great that he is open and honest about this, though I do wish he wouldn't use even this to push the barrow of his victory over all odds. In the meantime, he’ll be fighting British heavyweight Derek Chisora (for the third time) on Saturday 3 December. I bought this a while back just before the 'At home with the Furys' series aired on Netflix and started reading it in between other books but after popping out a couple of weeks ago and spotting the Gypsy Kings car It gave me a big ole nudge to crack on and finish this fantastic book.
