About this deal

You have to admit, though, that Raimi cuts away from the pencil-gouged ankle just in time before the whole fake foot comes apart at the seams.

The film opens up with what seems like a weird throwback to the original films, with a couple of young adults having a blast at a cabin in the woods, only for one of the girls (played by Anna-Maree Thomas) to turn into a deadite and attack her friends. Although renowned for their spectacular spontaneity and sheer hilarity on other tracks, the trio, here, are far more restrained. This release builds on the 2008 Evil Dead - The Treasures Collection DVD listed above, with a range of upgraded and new material spread over two discs. It serves as proof that atmosphere and mood can yield a truly fun and frightening experience, not just blood and guts alone. One by one, they are possessed, starting with Cheryl (Ellen Sandweiss) in the famous vine scene that caused quite the controversy and made 'The Evil Dead' one of the first films to be included in the infamous video nasty list of the UK. This is a terrific bonus for fans because it allows us the opportunity to see just how difficult, time-consuming and tiring the process of making this film really was. The dialogue is a bit pinched, but always clear and there are some great moments of stereoscopic movement from one side of the room to another. This classic dark fantasy horror comedy is the third installment in the Evil Dead film series, directed by the great Sam Raimi (Spider-Man, Drag Me To Hell). This release also comes with some interesting new extras, a couple of which can only be found in this box-set.

When things begin to go extreme, the gaudy EC-style palette comes into play and, if anything, this transfer provides a greater vibrancy and a more garish appeal to the slaughter. The Evil Dead: Treasures from the Cutting Room Floor" (59 min) — This is probably one of the most extensive assortment of alternate takes and deleted scenes I've ever come across. Grindhouse Releasing and Fathom Events will celebrate the 40th anniversary with an exclusive nationwide screening introduced by star Bruce Campbell. Shadow delineation is keen and detail is never sunken or lost amid the darker portions of the image. The only survivor, Ash (Bruce Campbell, who also starred in the first film), deranged after having to dismember his possessed, dead girlfriend, fights back with a chainsaw.

But, thankfully the series will live on, as we have word that the complete series will be making its way to Blu-ray and DVD this October 22nd in the UK. The commentary was recorded just last year gives the actors a chance to look back and reminisce about the production. Ash's journey takes him from zero to hero as he faces evil spirits, possessed girlfriends and deadite incarnations of himself through a battle to the ends of the Earth and back. This is more than just a minor niggle, as the full-frame version is still the best way to view the film in my opinion, although it has to be said that the 1.

Particularly interesting is the section on the film's second coming with its triumphant impact on videotape, but this whole thing is thoroughly entertaining, perfectly frank and fun-but-fascinating.
