The intensity of those deep woods and vetiver are unlike anything I’ve experienced before, they envelop you in the mysteries of the night, in it’s intoxicating darkness. These first 5-10 minutes are a bit too much for me personally, but once it settles it is really beautiful. More powerful, richer and even more voluptuous, the woody intensity of this fragrance reveals a fascinating new side of the Encre Noire man’s personality…manly and sensual. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. will definitely try this Encre Noire, thank you Victoria, for mentioning the vetiver in Encre Noire…I need a new one.

My only regret is that didn’t have this have one sooner to wear while mourning lost loves as I wonder the damp evening streets alone after an early autumn snow. The opening has a disagreeable burnt odour, but once it settles down the heart notes last long and are thick; Ink, wet leaves, herbal smoulder and damp meadow smell. Like most vetivers, Encre Noire has great longevity and presence, but unlike rich flowers or gourmand ambers, it’s not distracting.I think this is the last straw, I'll stick with my bottle of the original "Encre Noire" and put this in the donation bin.

The original Lalique Encre Noire was one of the most avant-garde fragrances of its time, nobody had created something like that before. First impression - all my fears vanished, I like it a lot, and I find nothing that might be polarizing, offensive or overpowering. It lasts quite a bit, doesnt project a lot but nevertheless for the cost as a daily fragrance you get an amazing scent.The only thing I can say is, this is a more complex version of the original encre noir, not for everyone. I blind bought this, a bit nervously, after reading so many mixed reviews and having a decent sized collections with little Vetiver experience. The drydown is sandalwood and incense mainly, for me with the smallest, nearly invisible hint of patch.

I'll stick to the original after this bottle is gone but it's worth a try if it sounds interesting to you. I know almost everyone says here it's for fall/winter but I'm gonna give it a try in the summer too considering it smells rather citrusy fresh on my skin. It does however calm down after an hour or so to reveal a nicely blended, high quality, deep smoky vetiver scent with the orris and resins playing a big part.after an hour or so, a stinky furry mammal comes out to play and secretes all over this beautiful piece of wood. I ignored this scent for ages based on what I thought I didn't like, I'm overjoyed with this completely unexpected surprise and wanted to share my admiration of what I think is a fantastic scent. I very much enjoy it myself, smells like the woods in England after a rainfall and you just grabbed a piece of wood off the damp ground. Besides Encre Noire, I really like Perles de Lalique and Lalique Eau de Parfum (in a big square bottle, with a red tassel).

Biggest difference between it and the original is in the opening 15-20mins when the incense and orris are most prominent. There are few fragrances that I need to pump upwards of 6 hits, but with this formulation I must for it to last beyond 3. Vetiver is a note hard to describe, and rare enough that its hard to draw similarities to other fragrances. I think that encapsulates A l'Extreme's uses: as a novelty which effortlessly evokes the image of death and decay.

Wearing this fragrance I can confirm from my experience men give me more compliments for this fragrance more than women. If I put my nose right up to the piece of skin that I sprayed and breathe out, to give the perfume some heat and moisture, and then breathe in again, then some other aspects of it are brought forth. This is synthetic shadows and disposable pen ink on a bed of Iso E Super, minty cypress, and oozing vetiver.
