About this deal

He claimed he killed the children because one of them would not stop crying, and was sentenced to life for the murders in 1973.

He has spent a large chunk of his prison years living under the protection of Rule 43, which caters for those prisoners deemed vulnerable or those that need protection for their own safety. McGreavy was told he must remain under closed prison conditions but the judge imposed a ban on naming McGreavy to protect him from other prisoners.By the late 60’s David was stationed at Portsmouth Naval base in Portsmouth England, where he joined his first ship, HMS Eagle. He picked her up and swung her body against the wall numerous times and with such force that he shattered her skull. Clive and Elsie had been school friends, and there was a five-year age difference between them; they had married in September 1968 when Elsie was 16 and pregnant with Paul. The couple were then escorted them to the police station, where they were told of their children's brutal murder.

The MP said he will raising the case with the Ministry of Justice, which has announced they will be carrying out a Serious Further Offence review to establish the full facts of the case. He was well known to the neighbours who said he was so good with the three children, almost like a second father.Since being incarcerated, Mcgreavy has applied for parole on at least nine separate occasions, and each time has been denied.

January 1972 found Mcgreavy still living at his parent’s house, devastated from losing Mary, and effectively living as a wastrel.Parole Board decisions are solely focused on whether a prisoner would represent a significant risk to the public after release. The couple already had two children, three-year-old Paul and 20-month-old Dawn and they lived not far from where David’s parents lived. For a start, they had no idea who she was, they had known each other less than 6 months and had only met twice. He drank between five and seven pints and played cards and darts, after which Mr Ralph picked him up so he could babysit the children. One reporter covering the story claimed at the time there was a definite atmosphere in the court and if any of the women could have gotten at Mcgreavy, they would have lynched him.
