About this deal

It's hard for me to qualify that though as like anything it is in my hand and the most fresh upon my mind.

Evan also picks up where he left off with love interest (and neighbour) Mia and her son Peter and with the very delightful teenage Orphan program (black ops) drop-out, teenage genius and hacker Joey. When the illegal provides X's phone number which is actually Nowhere Man, Aragon knows he is connecting to this legendary bad ass who does way too much good. However, Evan makes demands from Aragon when it comes to his drugs business that are non-negotiable if he is to help get Anjelina back. His mission to find the kidnapped daughter of an 'unconventional businessman' takes him to places in his own mind that he doesn't normally go, making him feel emotions he doesn't normally feel, leaving him struggling to stick to the ten commandments he has always lived by.

I don't think that particular aspect is necessary to keep the story interesting, but I'm happy to see where Hurwitz will go with it. Admittedly, this series is one of the better ones out there should you like lone, badass heroes who take no prisoners but have a certain code of honour (a la Jack Reacher, or John Wick). I know I seem to say this a lot but this felt like the most dangerous endeavor Evan has ever taken on. Knives Out and Clue meet Agatha Christie and The Thursday Murder Club in this “utterly original” (Jane Harper), “not to be missed” (Karin Slaughter), fiendishly clever blend of classic and modern murder mystery. Suspension of disbelief is mandatory, even more so for this latest instalment of Evan Smoak than for the preceding serials. So when a man of somewhat dubious character seeks to engage Evan to bring back his kidnapped daughter, Evan doesn’t overthink his decision. As I’ve mentioned before, I tend to gloss over (skim) specifics but can still appreciate the nerdy level of detail others love.

Three years old in panties and sandals and not a stitch more, clanging pots and pans on the floor of the kitchen.I very much liked the fact Hurwitz has Aragon ponder the wrongs he’s committed in his life and worry about repercussions for his daughter. Either way, I will be eagerly awaiting the next installment to see where Hurwitz takes Evan and us along for the ride.
