I'm not sure he made enough albums during his lifetime for an ABA but I'd love to see someone tackle the post-1983 releases. Stunned, Beefheart pointed at the vacuum cleaner and uttered the immortal words, “This machine sucks” before disappearing into the desert to pursue his true vocation.

Disc 1 mostly features some of the Captain's earliest recordings, when the band was a relatively normal blues outfit (couple of Howlin' Wolf covers and traditional-sounding originals). Bidders will be deemed to act as principals, even if the Bidder is acting as an agent for a third party.When I got my 1992 SAM Unidisc Canadian import CD back in the winter of 1992-93 I was content with this release in not knowing at that time that there were problems with this album as far as the tapes used for pressing and the various versions/configurations/masterings available. On the one hand there’s the beautiful packaging, incredible photographs, insightful notes from John French and interviews with many ex-Magic Band members. as far as the Seller is aware, the main characteristics of the Lot set out in the auction catalogue (as amended by any notice displayed in the saleroom or announced by the Auctioneer at the auction) are correct.

After I bought my Canadian SAM CD, I started seeing other Beefheart SAM versions/configurations in the form of CD/cassette albums/compilations.This was released by Revenant in March 1999 as a taster to the Grow Fins set, and is very tasty indeed. The highlight for me is the Captain's rendering of "Orange Claw Hammer", accompanied by Frank Zappa on acoustic guitar. Given that the early cuts are from 1966, this must have been one of the heavier bands at the time – raw, ramshackle.
