About this deal

The Bosch 1617EVS is a good router but an 80MM spindle is 3 5/32 inches so the Bosch is not much bigger but would not fit in an 80MM router mount. now if only they protected that power switch from dust getting in there… it would have been perfect (I heard some people that had dust get in the power switch and disabled it… I just blow air at it after each use and keep it extra clean (cause I'm anal about cleanliness) so I haven't gotten anywhere close to such a thing… but apparently it's a possibility).

I think I may go ahead with upgrading to a three-phase spindle/motor combo, however I want to know if it makes any sense to go with the following: 1. The collets are "self-extracting" meaning that turning the locking nut less than 360-degrees after it initially loosens pops the bit free.WARNING: Wood Dust created by Drilling, sawing, sanding or machining wood products can expose you to wood dust, a substance known to the State of California to cause cancer. The installation into the Bosch Router Table was hassle free and the combination brings out the best in both tools. Good power, soft start is a great feature, variable speed, and as mentioned simple intuitive controls. This is not a very big deal with the router mounted to a router table, but I still appreciate the feature. The Bosch 1617EVS fixed base has a very nice no-tools mechanism that controls both coarse and fine adjustments. The Bosch 1617 is rated between 2 - 2-1/4 HP depending on which motor is involved, all are rated at 12 amps. Also, I have never had a jammed bit with this router, something I cannot say about my older Makita or Craftsman.Note that you’ll probably also need to get a custom collet if the unit doesn’t come with a 12mm collet, so check the usual suspects, Elaire Corp. Switching to the plunge base, I tried making a T-slot for a sliding through-bolt using a clamp-on guide fence and simple pencil lines indicating the beginning and end of the slot. HP (Max) Variable-Speed Palm Router, (1) PR101 Fixed Base, (1) PR111 Plunge Base, (1) PR102 Straight-Edge Guide, (1) PR114 1/4 In. As a professional, a lot is expected of you: speed, reliability, competence, endurance – in short: excellent results. HP Electronic Fixed-Base Router has the power to get results, with a 12 Amp motor and adjustable speed settings.

Right or left switch location for user preference and consistency (motor does not rotate during depth adjustment). Furthermore, the Bosch 1617EVS Variable Speed Router comes with a "precision centering system", which makes the router bit track at true center. The design of the grips on both bases make handling this router a pleasure and allows you to concentrate on making the cut, not fighting the router. Not included in the kit, but there are spaces in the case are for several bits of both shaft sizes along the edge below the bases, for both dust shrouds on the left above the plunge base above and below the hinge, slots at bottom right for several sizes of bushings as well as the bushing adapter. I also had trouble with the soft aluminum housing getting scuffed up when inserting it into the fixed base.

However, I have been thinking about adding a router bit extension that will allow me to leave the motor on the table and change the bits from the top. Another nice feature is that the router motor removes completely from the base for easy bit changes. Large "windows" at the front and rear provide a good view of the bit area, enhanced by the 2" bit opening in the sub-base.

If anybody has World-class googling skills, or already knows where to find such a thing, I’d be grateful if you could link to it. As I test out the new "23" I expect to feel more power than with the 1617, perhaps as much as my PC 7518 (rated 3-1/4 HP). I like the fact that is starts off without the desire to run away from your hands, and it's precision height control is superb.
