About this deal

I like the Morrison-shaped villain who truly is out of his fucking mind so that his methods and dialogue are chaos. Damian wants to replace Tim Drake as Robin, because he fells that as Batman's son, he's the only one that deserves to be Robin. After this arc, there's an issue, in which Grant Morrison explores the idea he introduced in "Arkham Asylum".

I also have a (very minor) issue with the fact that a good deal of the pages are not numbered, especially considering it has a pretty comprehensive table of contents. Another new villain who doesn’t get to do much but is an intriguing figure is introduced, The Flamingo. Morrison's run covers a lot of big events from Damian Wayne being introduced, to the entire Batman RIP that ties into Final Crisis. A wildly entertaining ride that's been at all times challenging, unsettling, amusing, inventive, iconic and epic.An abandoned mine in the country houses a Lazarus Pit, making it a valuable target for local gangs like King Coal and The Pearly King of Crime. But here's the thing, it isn't like your typical skrull plot where these heroes haven't been here for years. It starts with Bruce having to refresh his Bruce Wayne identity because he's been neglecting it, and Alfred remarks that the voice he used to have to practice he speaks in all the time now. He cannot be understood because he has detached himself so distantly from humanity that Pyg has become something else. Even little moments, like trying to disable an alien foe reveal how Batman is out of his depth here.

Morrison is known for his non-linear storytelling, which becomes incredibly clear in an omnibus such as this. It holds up, but even more so it reads better after years of reading Batman stories from the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s. Daniel and more, along with two brand-new pages from superstar artist Chris Burnham ( Batman Incorporated ), recapping events from The Resurrection of Ra's Al Ghul .Although the creator has steered clear of most of Batman’s well-known foes (save the Joker and small roles for the Red Hood, Catwoman, the Penguin, Man-Bat and Talia Al-Ghul), Morrison has taken great joy in reworking various classical and established pieces of the Batman mythos to create something which seems fresh and new.

For the full collection information about each set of issues, see the individual pages for Batman, Detective Comics, and Batman and Robin. Things are off to a strange start as a man wearing a Batman costume shoots the Joker point-blank in the face, permanently scarring the villain even worse than he already was.

This is inessential reading by all accounts, but if you have a more academic interest in Morrison’s run you should start. One thing I do dislike is that the inside of the hardback cover doesn't match the protective soft cover. She tells them they should not try and bring back Batman, only to find out the Knight, Squire’s partner, had already placed the hero’s corpse in the waters hours earlier. Though she isn’t a recurring character throughout Morrison’s run, Morrison draws on her history with Batman to cast his new Robin in a surprisingly believable retcon . We also learn that during Damian’s recovery with his mother, Talia, after receiving injuries in his fight with the Red Hood, he was implanted with a mechanism that allows Talia to control her son remotely.

Meanwhile, Batman is working with Oberon Sexton on the deaths of many prominent millionaires across the globe. Will usually dispatch within same working day if paid before 09:00 GMT (excludes weekends and holidays). Morrison isn't just doing this to subvert expectations, the tale itself is riveting, exciting and delirious. This is an interesting route because Batman had already been playing a father figure since 1940 when Robin was first introduced into the book. This is the beginning of a stunning direction for the World's Greatest Detective that will team him with Catwoman, Batwoman and Batman on international crime-fighting missions against villans like Lord Death Man in Japan, Argentina, and other parts of South America. Damian Wayne, the rightful heir to the Wayne fortune, takes over his father’s company at only ten years old and is quite good at it. Being raised in a tube and conditioned to be a near-perfect human has advantages and disadvantages, as we learn all too well with this character. Flashbacks reimagine the original meeting of the Club of Heroes in a Silver Age style, complete with Ben-Day dots to stand in for the cost-cutting process used for coloring. It’s not my favorite part of Morrison’s run, but I always applaud them for doing weird experimental things rather than repeatedly retelling the same stories.
