About this deal

Within the Game Settings section, there is an option for Per System Advanced Configuration. Here, you can make adjustments specific to a certain console. Here are some scenarios where this might be important: In the System Settings section, you can set your time zone, display options (like saturation level), and update your JELOS firmware. I recently bought the Powkiddy X55 and reviewed it here. Now that I've had it a for a month how is it? Great! PSP improved greatly with JELOS updates, and many games run full speed, most at 2x PSP resolution. It won't do highly intensive games like MGS Peacewalker, Gran Turismo, Ratchet & Clank, and God of War, but anything lighter runs just fine. I've tested many games without any issues, some with frameskip, but many without. I'm pleasantly surprised, and majorly impressed with the JELOS devs.

Power button turns off the screen, pressing again turns it on. It now has a true deep sleep mode when you turn off the screen, I've tested it, it's as promised. Over 8 hours I think I lost 3-4% battery. For harder-to-run systems like N64, Dreamcast, Saturn, and PSP, I recommend adjusting the Default CPU Governor to PERFORMANCE to improve their overall speed. Lastly, the GPU is decent enough to run various shaders, in some cases with multiple passes. I tend to play GBA with a custom shader with two passes (VBA-Color at 0.25 darkening + LCD1x). For 8 and 16 bit games, zfast-crt-standard works great. Somebody who would be impressed by the aesthetics of the device. And somebody who would be very happy to have 8-64 bit era games in their hands. I don’t tend to do this with any of my handhelds as that’s what I want them to be, handheld!! But, I do get that a lot of gamers like to connect them to a large-screen TV. The more I think about it, a newcomer would probably be blown away by what the x55 can do. That’s going to be the best target market for the x55. If your gaming tastes are not all that high, and you’re just looking for a device that feels premium and can play your Super Nintendo, N64, Playstation, PSP, Arcade, ect… this could work well for you. If you don’t have a nice microSD to USB adapter, you might want to think about getting one. A nice adapter like this one from Ankerwill give you the fastest transfer speeds possible, and won’t cause any corruption issues with your card.

Gripes aside about the RK3566 being 6-12 months late to the scene… this ain’t a bad looking device. In the UI Settings menu, you can change your theme or configure the current theme. If you want to have a navigation setup like shown in the video above, keep the “System Theme” but in the Theme Configuration section, change the System View Style to “Multi System”. To start, head over to ScreenScraper and create a free account if you haven’t already. Make note of your login credentials. Now press START to bring up the JELOS menu, and go to UI Settings > Theme Set and change to the AlekFull one. I recommend going into UI Settings > List Transition Style and change it to either Instant or Fade, those work the best with the Alekfull theme. We were hoping that it was a metal shell too, to help add to its saving graces. But it’s just regular old boring plastic. Powkiddy x55 Impressions Image Source: MechDIYA good microSD to USB adapter will give you the fastest possible transfer speeds, and won’t cause problems with your card. A mini HDMI adapter or a mini HDMI to HDMI cable helps to connect PowKiddy X55 to an external display. A number of Bluetooth controllers will also work with this device. Some emulators have their own hotkeys. For example, to bring up the menu in Yabasanshiro (the default Saturn emulator), press the SELECT button. In PPSSPP (PSP emulator), press the L3 button. More info can be found here. Most themes I’ve tried run smoothly and the interface is well laid out with most functions on start, select, or X button options menus when on the main screen or in a Game collection. The X55 feels pretty lightweight. I don't expect it to hold up to any high drops. It is firm though, no flex or creaking. I disassembled it fairly easily, and the shell clips are strong enough to hold it together without screws. The 8 screws probably help to keep it sturdy and prevent any flexing. If you're familiar with the RG353M/P, you'll know what to expect here. This runs on the same chip (RK3566), and will perform similarly.
