If you need all that you’re not really the target audience – there are FPGA based complete modern refits of the C64 mainboard that do all you want that will fit in an original C64 case with keyboard, or whatever modern equivalent you care to fit and are compatible with all legacy hardware and have modern video standards like HDMI. Regardless, the C64 is remarkably easy to use, thanks to the modern interface which lets you select games, adjust display settings to imitate old tube TVs, and save and load titles. Or, you can boot the machine as a classic C64 or Vic 20 and code simple programs. You can also add game ROMs via USB to load new titles into the machine. Securing ROMs of classic games is legally complicated, but the C64 provides a fantastic – if fiddly – means to access the numerous contemporary homebrew games made for the Commodore 64.Dedicated systems (e.g. VIC20/Pet/Plus4/C128) can be created in EmulationStation following these instructions. For a multi disk game, an M3U playlist file can be used to group and change discs from the RetroArch Disc Control interface.
