About this deal

Aunt Dorothy makes Ruth work from dawn till dusk on her failing Ostrich farm, and also makes her share the minimal food she does get with her only friend - her dog Yuri. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. He also jabs a punch of humour on the state of society, government and politics which makes you double over with laughter.

Some cultural stereotypes crop up as well which I believe Walliams has also been pulled up on in his World's Worst Children/Teachers books. As soon as Ruth rescues Spaceboy from the flaming flying saucer, helicopters piloted by faceless figures fly above the farm, trying to catch the alien. She sees the UFO crash then burst into flames and tiptoes up to try and help whoever might be inside. I also loved all the illustrations because they helped bring the story to life, especially the ones at the end. At times I felt like I was reading Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator, but Walliams definitely has his own signature on his work and Dahl, while clearly a strong influence, is not channelled.I was glad to see the historical context of the book, a bit of history there for readers, and Walliams actually reins in some of the usual silliness with no Raj or disgusting lunch menus. Ruth loves to look up into the stars at night, imagining shooting up into space in a rocket like her idol, Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin. The night sky is the only pleasure Ruth gets since she was left as an orphan on her evil aunt's steps. A mysterious figure in a shiny silver spacesuit, boots, gloves, cape and mirrored helmet, Spaceboy speaks in a spooky voice, his face completely hidden behind his helmet.

Throw in an “alien” (my daughter saw through that plot line on the first page) child escapes and causes havoc and revenge is had on said horrible adult.

bestselling author David Walliams for a breathless cinematic adventure full of mystery, action, laughs and surprises – and a secret that could change the course of history. An alien on earth is news and the Spaceboy even makes it to The White House to meet a rotund President with an orange face who may or may not seem familiar to many readers.
