About this deal

Credit is provided by Novuna Personal Finance, a trading style of Mitsubishi HC Capital UK PLC, authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. This gave me a chance to perform before and after tests, and I’m pleased to report a visible improvement. As many of you will know over the last couple of years I’ve turned exclusively to Micro 4/3 cameras and lenses which I now use for all of my professional and personal work (bar the very rare occasions when I’m part of an event with Canon). These statements are often made by people who have not used nor compared each system in real-world conditions. It’s fair to say this has been a highly anticipated lens, seamlessly continuing where the 12-40mm stops, and delivering an 80-300mm equivalent range that’s desired by close-range action as well as street and portrait shooters.

Inevitably as light levels or general contrast decreased, the lens / AF system found it harder to lock-on.In fact sharpness is the one attribute which gets flogged to death in lens discussions and I will say that as a portrait photographer sharpness is not always top of my list. This powerful lens also delivers fast autofocus, a 50cm minimum working distance at all focal lengths and more essential pro features perfect for wedding, wildlife and sport photography. The lens hood also has a neat trick to it…you turn a ring on it and it slides backwards over the lens to retract.

Another interesting impact of having an iris in a lens is the rendering of specular highlights at small apertures. Removable rotating tripod collar offers a stable platform for working with this lens atop a tripod or monopod. I'm no expert lens reviewer by any imagination and won't be posting shots of newspaper (though I've done that comparison and my real world shooting has confirmed it). As the aperture closes, diffraction causes these points of light to spread into starbursts, and it’s another area where one lens may deliver a better result than another.from the lens tip) throughout the entire zoom range with no loss of image quality thanks to the corrective effects the floating method provides. This lens provides outstanding portability by achieving an unparalleled compact and lightweight form. Old Craftsmanship In Tuscany with the Leica M 240 by Christian Robert Dear Steve, In Tuscany, and especially in Florence, old craftsmanship is still alive. The balance of the finance agreement is payable directly to Novuna Consumer Finance in equal monthly instalments by monthly direct debit.

As noted earlier, the lens' distance scale also becomes visible in this mode, with distances marked in both metres and feet. To achieve compact, lightweight lens with optical performance exceeding that of the heretofore highly regarded Four Thirds System standard Super High Grade (SHG) lens, the lens employs such glass materials as the Super ED lenses, the ED or HD lens*2 as well as of EDA*3 and other aspherical lenses. This may only apply to selected camera models though – it is entirely plausible that this problem won't arise when shooting with an OM-D E-M1, for instance. Also for giggles, I decided to try out the super resolution and enhance function on the bare lens photo. It seems to keep up better with predictable motion than random motion, as you’d expect from contrast detect focus (yes, the E-M1 does mostly contrast detect focus with this lens; the E-M1 does full-time phase detect focus only with the older adapted 4/3 lenses; for m4/3 lenses it appears that the camera does initial phase detect to determine direction to focus, but actual focus is mostly contrast detect).

But that’s not the point, we all know that 4/3 systems will never be able to challenge a similar advanced full frame system in extreme conditions. Nevertheless, in terms of rendering, subject separation, low light performance the Nikon 70-300 would be similar. We also offer product videos, reviews and image samples to help you to choose which camera or lens is right for you. I have sharp lenses, and I’ve spent a lot of years using Canon’s finest, but I’m going to put my head on the block and say that I think this is up with the best.
