About this deal

In addition to serving as the best and most musical version of Harvest, Reprise’s 2009 reissue features artwork and packaging better than that of the original.

That's not the real Neil" barked a particularly discerning Neil Young fan when I dared to suggest that 'Harvest' was my favourite album. However, it wasn’t quite as impressive as I was expecting, especially compared to others in the series, which in many cases were superb. On this number one 1972 album, even the singer’s acquired-taste voice comes across smooth and beautiful – the smash Heart of Gold, with steel guitars and Linda Ronstadt’s backup vocals, is by far young’s most commercial-sounding song. Fans of the record will receive a new glimpse into Harvest through the two DVDs included in the box set. Harvest is the fourth studio album by Canadian / American musician Neil Young, released in February 1972 on Reprise Records, catalogue number MS 2032.

Neil Young announces the December 2nd release of a 50th Anniversary Edition of his 1972 album ‘Harvest’.

The lovely Unknown Legend, From Hank to Hendrix, and the beautiful Harvest Moon are among Young's best songs. Somehow I bought this fantastic album back around 2010, opened it up and looked at the pretty art, but then didn't get around to listening to it until today.

Mastering and soundstaging have achieved an effect whereby it sounds like Neil is sitting in my living room playing casually. Also included are three unreleased tracks from the original Harvest sessions: “Bad Fog of Loneliness,” “Journey Through The Past,” and “Dance Dance Dance. Do yourself and your ears a favour, listen to this remaster on a well set up turntable through a decent sound system and I guarantee you'll have every bit of the best audio experiences to be had bar none.

the last two tracks, the deceptively gentle The Needle and the Damage Done and the hypnotic rocker Words (Between The Lines Of Age), predict Tonight’s The Night, Young’s haunted 1975 classic. But Chris Bellman’s mastering on the 2009 reissue gives it extra definition that helps clarify the attack. Finance is provided by PayPal Credit (a trading name of PayPal UK Ltd, Whittaker House, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond-Upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, TW9 1EH). It featured the London Symphony Orchestra on two tracks and vocals by noted guests David Crosby, Graham Nash, Linda Ronstadt, Stephen Stills, and James Taylor. The sound, on tracks like 'Old Man' and 'The Needle and the Damage Done,' was Americana stripped down and rebuilt with every jagged edge exposed.

The box sets are completed by two DVDs which provide a new glimpse into ‘Harvest’: The first is ‘Harvest Time’, an unreleased two-hour film shot during the making of ‘Harvest’, with footage from Young’s ‘Harvest Barn’ sessions in Northern California, recording sessions in Nashville and London. For items that are dispatched using our standard service, we ask that you wait 14 days from the date of dispatch before reporting any items as undelivered. As with all the vinyl releases I’ve heard in Young’s Archive Series, Harvest stands as a model of how reissues should be done. Other elements, such as reeds and percussion, benefit from more clarity and precise location in the soundstage.
