About this deal

Not only does it show you how to draft a large range of blocks, it also gives you lots of examples of how to manipulate them into new patterns. You might find it helpful to use our free Introduction to Pattern Cutting eBook to give you a better understanding of all the pattern cutting symbols and terminology. However, the great expansion of casual wear, cut in jersey or stretch fabrics, has led to the growth of ′flat cutting′ with no darting to create the shape and this edition devotes a whole section to this type of cutting. Trousers are next on the list and this section is much the same as the skirt section but with trousers as our focus! A good book for learning how to make your own patterns, design your own clothes, just the way you like.

Metric Pattern Cutting for Women s Wear , first published in 1975, provides a straightforward introductory book for students beginning courses in flat pattern cutting.Winifred Aldrich shows you how to create the correct size, design, and construction for your project. There is also a lot of information on how to draft a variety of different designs for tops, dresses, sleeves, pants, skirts etc. Making a toile means that you'll be able to see if the design you were envisioning has worked, the fit and size are right and all before you've spent time and money making the final garment. It includes instructions for using stretch and jersey fabrics as well as the more traditional woven fabrics.

But what is the most amazing is that it teaches you how to draft different blocks with different ease in them which is great especially when you are drafting different styles. This sixth edition remains true to the original concept: it offers a range of good basic blocks, an introduction to the basic principles of pattern cutting and examples of their application into garments. I personally use the 5th edition of this book (purple cover) but if you want to be all up to date there is now a 6th edition (Oliver green cover) , I'm not sure there's much difference though. Or, you can apply your very own measurements if they don't correspond to the standard sizes as illustrated.

hier können sich mal gewisse deutsche "Systeme" (um keine Namen zu nennen) eine Scheibe von abschneiden. I draw lines down my side and take measurements seperately for back and front and use those to draft the front and back seperately as opposed to using the full bust, waist and hip measurements as in the book. I do think another book which details how to sew clothes together and various techniques would be a good companion. I'm all for creating and designing your own sewing patterns so that you can get more from your sewing projects and this is why I am trying to make pattern cutting as accessible as possible to everyone. These block patterns form the perfect groundwork to help you create perfect fitting clothes right from the start.Neuware - Metric Pattern Cutting for Women's Wear provides a straightforward introduction to the principles of form pattern cutting for garments to fit the body shape, and flat pattern cutting for casual garments and jersey wear. Pattern Cutting Ruler - I use the Pattern Master ruler because I find the size covers most outfits I make. It's set out clearly and simply but professionally and has a big range of form and flat blocks for a huge range of patterns plus adaptions and it's right up to date. We take pride in offering a wide selection of used books, from classics to hidden gems, ensuring there is something for every literary palate.

It isn't so suitable if you don't have any experience as it *is* a technical book and it does look daunting on first opening because of all the detail inside.

I would recommend it to anyone who has experience of dressmaking and pattern adaptation but wants to branch out into creating their own patterns. It's quite strong so it won't break (it's been around the world with me and it hasn't broken, I think that's quite impressive) and it's super easy to do seam allowances with the extra lines on it. Metric Pattern Cutting for Women′s Wear was first published in 1975 to provide a straightforward introductory book for students beginning courses in flat pattern cutting. Winifred was formerly Professor of Clothing Technology at Nottingham Trent University and a practicing fashion designer. Man bekommt gute Infos über die einzelnen Bereiche, auf was zu achten ist, weshalb man dies und das macht usw.
