This is nothing less than an anthology of sexual baggage and my hat is off to the men who wrote in with such honesty and courage. Men in Love goes beyond the cliché of woman seen as either madonna or whore to reveal the conflict of love and rage at the centre of men's emotions. My only reason for missing out on the five star mark is because I didn't manage to read the whole book as I was in a rush to lend it out and because not all of Miss Friday's psychoanalysis sounds believable, often I get the feeling she ought to have just written . I'd be lying if I had said I'd never thought of something wild and inappropriate while in a relationship.A notice in her last book garnered about three thousand responses from American men, of which about two hundred are included in this volume. The men are not repulsed by women's bodies, genitalia (or even anuses), pubic hair, effluvia, or uninhibited sexual desire or pleasure - quite the opposite. And naturally I did the same and prodded my own boyfriend on a few subjects but the truth is fantasies are fantasies and they aren't real for a reason; mostly because they probably won't happen. It sounds as though she is making excuses for why some of the men think the way they do and I'm not sure if there has to be an answer to everything. Rather than merely an unfiltered compilation of letters detailing male sexual fantasies, Friday synthesizes them around a given theme--say, oral sex or sadomasochism--into an explanation of how they arise and what they signify.
