About this deal

This deeply personal and supportive series offers listeners an honest and relatable insight into how some the UK's best-known celebrities have coped with mental health difficulties, ranging from OCD to insomnia, addiction to grief, and depression to anxiety. Have long thought Nihal was the best interviewer around, reeling me into listening to debates on subject areas I wouldn't normally think about with people I've not previously heard of, and this has just reaffirmed that belief. The title is a bit misleading, as it’s not so much ‘let’s talk’ but more let’s get other people’s experiences, views, and reflections then share with the audience - which worked for me , as the author introduces some interesting individuals.

The best thing about this book is that Nihal practices what he preaches—he models how to have better conversations by interviewing people who have powerful stories to share. The people of Japan believe that everyone has an ikigai - a reason for being; the thing that gets you out of bed each morning.

The only thing lacking for me was actual transcripts of the conversations, in raw form, before they are converted into the prose of the book. Sir Michael Caine knows a thing or two about gangs: whether that’s joining one as a kid, or playing them in movies for over 50 years. Part how-to and part manifesto, Let’s Talk is Nihal’s accessible, anecdotal and invigorating toolkit to having better conversations with anyone, any time. In each episode you'll follow one person's journey, getting to listen in on their coaching sessions with Selina and following them as she sends them off on a task to try out a new career idea.

In some ways this is very similar to some of the other books that I have read more recently, in that this requires concentration and provokes introspection, and a desire to continue to develop. Guests from the world's biggest stars to leaders of inner-city gangs have lauded his seemingly innate ability to stimulate positive discussions without the need for confrontation.
