About this deal

The subsequent play out - entrapment, double cross, confrontation with the bad guys and the growing attraction between the two leads is somewhat predictably formulaic but enjoyable nonetheless. They find the life jackets have been attached to trousers, and that Garrett and Maggie faked the attempt for the island. This shot also features in the following productions; Cage of Gold (1950), Escapade (1955), Left, Right and Centre (1959), and Beat Girl (1960) (all qv). Maggie tells Garrett to meet her at the train station, where she convinces him to board the train with her. There are some good shots at Watford Junction in this thriller, taken on the now disused former platform 12.

Hide and Seek is a 1964 British thriller film directed by Cy Endfield and starring Ian Carmichael, Curt Jurgens and Janet Munro. Needless to say it doesn't quite have the pizzazz of Hitchcock's masterpiece, but it does display Munro's willingness to disrobe on camera, something which I am sure The Master would have appreciated. G. Wodehouse's genial upper-class bumbler Bertie Wooster - heads a strong cast in this comedy Cold War thriller. It was one of several British films released in 1964 after spending well over a year on the shelf - others included "The Leather Boys", "Ladies Who Do" and "The Comedy Man". G. Wodehouse’s genial upper-class bumbler Bertie Wooster – heads a strong cast in this comedy Cold War thriller. From there things oscillate wildly from light comedic sparring with Munro to proto-Bondian henchmen menacing our hero. Maggie then says she has to leave and Garrett leaves alone after copying down Maggie's phone number.

He finds two life jackets in the boat, and it appears to Marek (watching from the hotel with binoculars) that Garrett and Maggie are attempting to swim to a nearby island with a castle. The customary paraphernalia of sinister men in raincoats, thugs in dark glasses, and stern old ladies on trains, is here manipulated flatly and without effect; intriguing possibilities (like the black knight) are started up, then made nothing of; and the dénouement, after a lengthy but unconvincing disquisition from Curt Jurgens explaining how his whole plot was arranged like a chess game, is crammed into about forty seconds flat. Carmichael is a physicist who supposedly possesses a great talent which is desirable by all cold war players.Garrett is starting to doubt he is in the correct place, when he sees Maggie talking to Richter and finds a room upstairs with a chessboard that is missing the knight piece he has. Please do not forward additional screen captures to us but bring the detail to our attention, for we do, and are, 're-addressing' these older entries as time allows. Anthony Spencer identifies this as the Grand Union Canal with Grove Bridge in the background adding that the road over the bridge leads to The Grove, the former seat of the Earls of Clarendon. Images submitted must be in Landscape orientation, as would be seen on the cinema screen, not Portrait. Hugh Griffith stands out as a splendidly eccentric bargeman and Curt Jurgens as the main Baddie is obviously relishing his role as a cultured and charming sophisticate.

I haven’t seen my acquaintance for quite a few years, but Hide and Seek is the eighth Cy Endfield film I have watched over the last two or three years. It doesn't always make sense and the tone varies but the story and cast are pleasing enough to carry the film along. We are aware that there are films on the site that were added when the criteria for the inclusion of locations was very different from today and, as a result, there may be scenes missing from some productions.David enters the building for his interview where Major McPherson questions him about his association with Dr. The police officer seems to imply that they could just avoid reporting all this to avoid the effort, but Garrett wants to follow all official steps. At that time I hadn’t seen many Endfield films, although I had a certain interest in the Blacklisted filmmakers. The shot was used in 'Escapade', 'Beat Girl' and 'Left, Right and Centre' while the water troughs can also be seen in 'One Wild Oat' and 'Train of Events'.

Sometime later Maggie goes out into the corridor to smoke a cigarette and notices two men she identifies as "secret police" that they must avoid. The difference being that there is no case of mistaken identity and being an astrophysicist, Carmichael does not need to rely on dumb luck to get himself out of a situation.Alongside him is the lively Janet Munro, and the two make enjoyable company as the plot carries off rather well. Garrett starts to walk down the road and comes across a policeman on a bicycle who goes back to the cliff with him. Ian Carmichael was apparently disappointed with the production of this vehicle that neither knows not cares what it is meant to be. He meets up with an old mentor and friend, Frank Melnicker, who is playing multiple games of chess at a display of simultaneous play at a temperance hall.
