About this deal

Due to the DVNR automatic process used to clean the prints, while it does greatly clear large amounts of dirt and grain, it accidentally blurs detail. At least the plastic is fairly soft, and the disc holders don't have sharp points, so they won't scratch the discs. There are some cool moments in the Cell and Buu arcs, but that second half of DBZ missed the epic closure the series could have had; heck, they miss another decent ending point again by bringing the Buu arc instead of ending it with Cell.

While the original Dragon Ball anime followed Goku through childhood into adulthood, Dragon Ball Z is a continuation of his adulthood life, but at the same time parallels the maturation of his son, Gohan, as well as other characters from Dragon Ball and more. Funimation, and by extension Crunchyroll, seems to be under the belief that only the hardcore collector fans want the show in the correct aspect ratio and everyone else prefers the series to be in widesceen. Minimal redubbing is present with Kyle Hebert redubbing Christopher Sabat as Ox King but no longer as the narrator despite his earlier work sounding deeper than most of his narration (he was retaining consistency with Dale Kelly at the time). Also, the pitch of the aliens in Vegeta's scenes are the original recorded lines unedited while the original dub had high pitch voices. Another note is that in the episodes " Memories of Gohan", " Save the World", " Goku's Decision", and " One More Wish", Mark Britten's voice for Ox-King is left intact.

This set is also notorious for its seemingly rushed approach toward English titles, credits, and music. Next came the restoration process: the film was first processed by a Digital Vision DVNR 1000 HD Noise Reducer, which eliminated much of the video noise and grain that was in the system. I also see the Resurrection F Collector's Edition is back, so least there's something nice for fans who haven't purchased the movie yet. A reason for this could be the track FUNimation used for the sound mix, the chorus note may be lost. Do you have any info about international non-English broadcasts about the Dragon Ball anime or manga translations/editions?

This version has sparked controversy for not exactly providing the right coverage of the episodes in 4:3 (with some parts still cropped compared to the Level sets and original Japanese version) but in the end it sold enough to become a reality. That said, for an English speaker's general enjoyment, the US Dragon Boxes still come out strong, especially considering the alternatives. My understanding is they did the framing on the cropped Blu-rays better than on the Orange DVD sets.Because a release doesn't have to be perfect to be definitive it just has to be better then its competition. A reason for this may be that FUNimation just created that side to show the audience how the prints did somewhat look alike. When Porunga is summoned in West City, the woman who freaks out seeing him is redubbed by Carrie Savage in place of a pitched-up Cynthia Cranz. The version of the show used in the 30th BDs was fine before they smeared all the grain off and gamma-blasted it to oblivion. The Dragon Boxes didn't sell as well as we would have liked" Well, yeah, the Dragon Boxes were 80 bucks a pop, came out during an economic recession, and almost immediately after the Orange Bricks were released.

in addition to 3rd form Frieza's voice sound effect being completely and unintentionally removed from the Remastered releases. It would have been great for people who wanted to relive that Toonami nostalgia but useless for almost everyone else. Some fans complain of the redub, including of not redubbing characters done by Sean Schemmel (Goku, Nail, and King Kai; Sean Schemmel originally voiced Goku in a similar pitch to Peter Kelamis before developing his own better-known voice in the Frieza Saga).

I have learned that the 16:9 have a bit more detail at the sides, which is a little weird, but I’ll take it. Goku - the strongest fighter on the planet - is all that stands between humanity and villains from the darkest corners of space. The Battle Ends', 'Nimbus Speed', 'Goku's Arrival', 'Lesson Number One', 'Goku Vs Vegeta', 'Saiyan Sized Secret', 'Spirit Bomb Away! I don’t even think the prints are the biggest issue at play (some other high gen prints scanned by fans on what’s probably a better quality scanner looked pretty nice, iirc), but the low quality scan combined with awful compression really make it a tough watch. The aforementioned newscaster was redubbed by Joel McDonald in place of Christopher Sabat, the latter using a voice virtually identical to his performance as Grandpa Gohan. A Super Saiyan arrives from the future to deliver a grave warning: The androids are coming, and they cannot be stopped!
