About this deal

What I Liked: The climax is spectacular and the saving grace to this novel it was written very well. I’m not going to spoil it, as my reviews are always spoiler free but when you get to the bit where it explains what happened and why certain characters are experiencing certain things I just felt like it wasn’t explained in a great amount of depth and was accepted too quickly. i got an ARC of this book back in august 2021, put off reading it until spooktober 2021, and even though i was so excited to be, as this bookmark declares, one of the first readers of this book, and even though the pub date got moved a whole month back, here i sit on delayed-pub-date-eve and i still haven't reviewed it. I think my biggest hang ups were the pacing towards the end, I was like - ok, wrap it up- and also that I didn’t really connect with any character.

His work has been published in five languages, optioned for film, and praised by authors as diverse as Roxane Gay, David Joy, Jerry Stahl, and Meg Gardiner. In fact, if I have any complaint, it is that at times the story feels like a cross between an unproductive therapy session and suspense story, with not enough forward momentum on the internal elements.Soon those things take the backseat as the crew hear things they’re not supposed to hear and start having powerful hallucinations as they work to crack the mystery. The next time the commweb—a network of beacons throughout the solar system designed to boost ship and colony transmissions for virtually instantaneous communication—needs an upgrade, a Verux SmarTech machine will be at the controls. With no easy path to escape, Claire decides to further amplify the device's abilities by removing the sound dampeners, expecting that this would allow them to sneak aboard Max's ship. This extreme bi-polar captain was such a broken character, the love story was so painful to listen to, I just couldn't take it anymore.

For now, however, she is still the boss of a beacon repair crew floating in space and doing work she feels is already useless, given recent technological advances. The PTSD that came from that is a constant presence in her life and contributes greatly to her nerves and insecurities, both of which are exacerbated by the thought of losing her job and being stuck on Earth after this last gig, which is something she hates and fears in equal measure. it's a mishmash of sci fi, horror, mystery, psychological suspense, and even some romance, which sounds genre-greedy, but manages to work, somehow.Honestly, probably one of the best books I have listened to the performance was perfect and the story was gripping from start to finish if you’re a fan of the alien franchise, you should enjoy this it’s spooky and creepy and keeps you guessing all the way through! I ate this book in one sitting because I was in the mood to be freaked out and it delivered tremendously.
