About this deal

It is nowhere to be found on the album, but turned up years later on a crap Hawkwind collection with Calvert femme-vocalising. The storyline of the record is political and related to the time when album was written, focusing to a case when German government bought jet fighters from the America.

Arthur Brown's turn at vocals gives us "The Song of The Gremlin" parts one and two, one of the top tunes on the CD. variant ("G for Germany") kept crashing in flames in droves killing young German pilots in the process! A concept album about a business deal between a megalomaniac German and an American salesman, in which the ultimate war plane is purchased , outfitted, and launched. Recorded live at the Underworld in Camden, this concert finds the band performing Hawkwind’s classic 1974 behemoth Hall Of The Mountain Grill in its entirety plus additional fan favorites! This concept album deals with the tragedy that occurred when American made Lockheed Starfighter jets were purchased in the sixties by the West German Air Force in a supreme act of folly.

In the end, one of the more mentally anguished and drug addled albums I have ever heard - and rock n roll on par with Hawkwind where it appears. The dirge-like “Catch A Falling Starfighter” is surrounded by ghostly electronics as Twink beats a funeral march over the assembled moaning of blackened Starfighter pilots. The vinyl release of Captain Lockheed and the Starfighters includes a 4 booklet with extensive liner notes. I was so happy to get this remaster and glad to see that it offered three bonus tracks, including an extended version of "The Right Stuff". I have this original version with insert containing lyrics and dialogue stapled to inside center of gatefold. It doesn't matter what track I choose they are all fabulous, from the outright Spacerock of Biometrics to the simplicity of Journey, where else can you hear past members of Hawkwind mixed in with various, sometimes unexpected guests (even if a few of them are dead), doing what they do best, making great albums. In the seventies I purchased the vinyl single ejection by captain lockheed and the starfighters thinking this was a one off novelty single.
