Buxus is found in most gardens due to its versatility and ability to grow well in a wide range of soils and situations but requires a specific mix of nutrients to keep it looking in tip-top condition. For individual 15-20cm (6-8in) containers or bare-root plants, take 60g (2oz) of feed and sprinkle part of it into the bottom of the planting hole and fork in. In early spring (March) apply 60g for plants up to 60cm (2 feet); for plants 90-120cm (3-4 feet) apply 120g and for standard trees use 180g.Mulch adds nutrients to the soil as it breaks down that can be taken up by the roots of your plants. An organic approach is always best and you may not need to do any more than mulching when growing box trees in the ground.
