About this deal

spoiler* For real though, if someone was going to give me their pet that they loved more than almost anything, just to prove to me that they would never leave me. However, I definitely had some issues with this one – I didn’t dislike it but this was missing a lot of the magic for me, for multiple reasons. charlie had such sarcastic dry humor and he was so funny 😭🫶🏼 i liked that she was like relatable in the things she liked, such as having a bookstagram, listening to Taylor swift, reading books, without it being over the top or overly quirky.

it made no sense to me and just really pissed me off… none of charlie’s excuses for why he was so terrible were good ones and it just made him even more of a jerk in my eyes. Our two main characters meet on a flight and years later run into each other and end up working together at a water park. She has a way of creating such interesting characters, taking a simple plot, adding a bunch of hilarious shenanigans and making it a 5 star read. It was dual pov but Charlie’s chapters felt few and far between, and I would have loved to learn more about his family. Betting on You follows Bailey who is struggling with her parents divorce when she meets Charlie, a cynic on a plane who she does not like. She lives in Nebraska with her husband and pack of wild children, and when she isn’t reading or writing, odds are good she’s guzzling energy drinks and watching rom-coms. let me just state that i miss the old meet-cutes; childhood best friends, you spill coffee on me and then 20 years later we're force-feeding that same coffee to our 10 year old, that shit yk? It's rare that I plow through a book and almost devour it, but in this case, I couldn't help myself.

And if you havn't read Lynn Painter before, I'd suggest looking into her backlist books as well because they're all great! charlie gets a cat at one point in the book, and you guys do not know how absolutely ADORABLE he is with that damn cat. This is a person, who at worst, was your friend and at best, was someone you were hoping very much for more with, and this is the way they acted. not that i’m complaining or anything, I just feel like the readers should’ve gotten more backstory on charlie. a whole ton of shit happens in this book with no connection: charlie and bailey fake date for no apparent reason, while they both try to sabotage bailey's mom's relationship, and also place a bet about their friends' relationship, all while deal with possible feelings/traumas?The ones who “need to jump wholeheartedly into fictional romances, simply because escaping into the joy of what I didn’t have was somehow comforting and hopeful. confession: I have not read "Better than Before" yet and reading it may change some of my opinions but that is yet to be decided. This is an enemies to friends to lovers story, with some deeper emotions of divorced parents and anxiety. From the New York Times bestselling author of Better Than the Movies , this swoon-worthy rom-com in the vein of She’s All That and 10 Things I Hate About You follows a teen girl who unwittingly finds herself at the center of a bet while working at a waterpark. These two just have undeniable chemistry and their conversations kept me so entertained through the entire book.

I will say that one thing I hate is the miscommunication trope and this book is all about it, which is the only reason I gave it four stars. when scott showed up at the pizza place when bailey and her mom were having a girls' night to PROPOSE, i nearly lost my shit because the timing could not have been worse; the one day it's just bailey and her mom? Who then turns out to be a tall drink of half regular, half diet coke (iykyk), funny, sarcastic CINNAMON BUN WITH CREAMY CHEESE ICIING. This is my third Lynn Painter book and while i enjoyed the others i read by her more (Better than the Movies will always be my fav), this was still a lot of fun! though, I didn’t enjoy the third act break up because it was so unnecessary, and it could’ve been avoided entirely, but whatever.I loved the beginning and the focus on divorced child syndrome and how kids feel in these situations as well as how it influences the mistrust kids have in the future. When I first started reading this book, I went in blind so I didn't know what I was getting myself into. I loved watching the friendship build between Charlie and Bailey and how they interacted with each other.
