About this deal

The storyline kept you guessing for the most part of the book, and the big twist was not what I expected at all. A sleep-deprived journalist and a sleep-deprived mom both think they see a missing teenager in the middle of the night. Mixing this with having been prepped as a witness for a trial, I understand the controversy over eye-witness reliance.

I didn’t really connect with any of the characters, and nothing about the storyline had me gripped, which is a shame as it started out so well. I absolutely loved Claire McGowan's writing in I Know You and What You Did, so naturally I was pumped af to grab her latest off NetGalley. Together they team up to solve "who the fuck is that lady in the dilapidated house across the street".This was very formulaic like many thrillers from well-known authors this year, which was disappointing. She ran the UK's first MA in crime writing for five years, and regularly teaches and talks about writing. She ran the UK’s first MA in crime writing for five years, and regularly teaches and talks about writing. It’s far-fetched at best and was quite boring until the half-way point, where it picked up a little bit. The police aren’t making time for Mary and Tim, so they decide to take matters into their own hands and try to solve a crime.

They see news reports of a missing woman who was last seen in this area and become convinced m the woman hey saw is her. Mary and Tim later bond and try to piece together what they saw that night and begin to connect it to the missing girl. Her narrative at the start was a bit much and seemed more like a chaotic day in the life of rather than the mystery of Samantha Ellis. Are You Awake by Claire McGowan takes the reader on a mystery that is both surreal and recognizable at the same time. taking a bite of the juiciest, cheesiest, creamiest mac n cheese but the aftertaste is kraft dinner dry ass powder. Woman’s Own magazine “This is an addictive thriller packed with secrets and lies with a twist that will knock you sideways.

She’s also irresponsible in putting her children in danger at times, although she does cop to it eventually. Biography: Claire published her first novel in 2012, and has followed it up with many others in the crime fiction genre and also in women's fiction (writing as Eva Woods).I’ve wanted to read a Claire McGowan book for a while now and appreciated the introduction to her writing. After a degree in English and French from Oxford University she moved to London and worked in the charity sector.

Looking out into the quiet neighborhood, she believes that she sees something at the vacant house across the street. While I enjoyed some of the OTT moments, I feel like it would’ve worked better if the book was aiming to be a darkly comedic mystery.Coincidentally, there is a missing 19-year old woman from their town, and they can’t help but wonder if that’s who they saw in the window of the house. Although the characters were irksome, they were representative of what law enforcement deals with on a regular basis…people (witnesses) who think they know more than they really do!
