There's nothing magical about the residual phase -- it's just OK, but pretty generic for this kind of old school fragrance --, but the opening phase is actually pretty good. Anyone can make you look up by being loud and boorish, but it takes a cut above to get that second glance.

But the star of the opening is really the richly elegant rose note, which is bolstered by carnation. Recently I became aware of Clinique Aromatic Elixirs and heard rumors that it was darn close to the original. But then it morphs into something very pleasant, a masculine floral somehow reminiscent of the drydown of Guerlain Heritage, a sublime fragrance in its own right.It was OK from what I remember, but not a comparison on the old vintage juice in the iconic bottle and packaging. But the Internet purchase sadly lacks the aroma that people / relatives have come to expect when I wear it.

Just smell Clinique’s classic woman’s perfume, Aromatics Elixir, and you’ll see what I mean: it was also created by Bernard Chant and to many people smells identical to Aramis 900.
