A bit repetitive in places but in my experience this approach has to be more productive in supporting people that find themselves struggling. this is one of the most important books on understanding ADHD I have come across, and I've read/listened to a lot since being diagnosed at 42 with ADHD 9 years ago. It is argued that in the hunter-gatherer cultures that preceded farming societies, hunters needed hyperfocus more than gatherers.

This hypothesis proposes that ADHD represents a lack of adaptation of members of hunter-gatherer societies to their transformation into farming societies. These populations have learned to believe that their condition is hopeless with the alcoholic and incarcerated giving up on the ability to succeed. The radio show is also simulcast as TV in realtime into nearly 60 million US and Canadian homes by the Free Speech TV Network on Dish Network, DirectTV, and cable TV systems nationwide. Looking back on my life, it is painfully obvious that I have been dealing with this since childhood. With our structured public schools, office workplaces, and factories those who inherit a surplus of “hunter skills” are often left frustrated in a world that doesn’t understand or support them. It is helpfully sectioned into "Understanding hunters and farmers", which explains how to recognise and understand the hunter type and "Living and thriving in a farmer's world" which gives practical advice for both hunters and the farmers who know them.

Thom Hartmann is the four-time Project Censored Award-winning, New York Times best-selling author of 25 books currently in print in over a dozen languages on five continents. Or were those inattentive husbands distracted from their tools by daydreams of a scrumptious dinner made with herbs from the hillside?About the Book: Author, having battled ADHD himself, has learned to live with it, even thrive on it. Some believe that learning is fastest and best when there is a constant shift between focused and an open state of consciousness. He reveals how some of the world’s most successful people can be labeled as ADHD hunters and offers concrete non-drug methods and practices to help hunters--and their parents, teachers, and managers--embrace their differences, nurture creativity, and find success in school, at work, and at home.

There are also various practical strategies and historical anecdotes that are at once inspiring and hope instilled. I agree that those with hyperactivity and high energy would be the hunters, but what about those of us with inattentive ADHD?New biofeedback technology has become available that is affordable and can be effective in the process of learning to concentrate. As for craving wait for an hour or two for the craving to pass or redirect it, attaching the craving to something else. Creativity requires risk taking with motivation from within the person and the belief in one’s own goals.

With our structured public schools, office workplaces, and factories those who inherit a surplus of "hunter skills" are often left frustrated in a world that doesn't understand or support them. I imagine he would tell me something similar to what Thom Hartmann believes, “Those with ADHD were the hunters in earlier times. Good content, but - as every 5th sentence is “quote-unquote” hearing it 100 times within 30 minutes does really become annoying. A genetic variant associated with ADHD has been found at higher frequency in more nomadic populations and those with more of a history of migration. The Hunter needs to be sensitive to the distractive noises in the forest and respond to these noises with his short but intense attention span to give him what he needs to know to make quick or snap decisions. My source for this comment is a Buddhist meditator of 15 years experience, with suspected ADHD myself, who also holds a PhD in neuroscience which was written on EEG brain activity in adults with ADHD. The relaxing average person would fall at the middle or in the 5 to 7 inch area, while the relaxed Hunter would be found in the 7 to 8 inch area and the relaxed Farmer in the 4 to 5 inch area. With such a wide distribution among our population, is it reasonable to assume that ADHD is simply a quirk?
