About this deal

Fortunately this is mostly confined to the corners, where it is especially evident (showing as purple fringing in areas of high contrast). megapixel backside-illuminated sensor is not appreciably noisier than a good Micro Four Thirds sensor of similar vintage. You know that movie trope where a guy who doesn’t know what he’s doing fires a machine gun and it jerks wildly in his hands and ends up stitching the ceiling with a dozen holes before he can get his finger off the trigger? It’s able to reliably track my subjects despite being dark and even when it had to guess where it went after something obstructed my subjects from view. Vignetting: Again, a surprising amount with there being more than a stop and a half wide open, and still about two-thirds of a stop at f/2.

There’s presumably not a ton of ED glass in this low-cost, lightweight lens, which probably explains the less-than-total longitudinal chromatic aberration correction. Before I bought the V1 last November, I counted myself lucky when one of my images on flickr was viewed 100 or 200 times. As an interesting side note; both Panny with their GF3KK and Nikon V1 both came out with designs panned by the media and within the same year both made substantial changes to their design to appease them.

well … my point is not against its image quality or its handling as a camera, which, i’m sure must be fairly good from reviews here and else where.

I have to confess that I don't use mine so much, being more of a wide shooter, or longer focal lengths, like the 32. This is how bad it looks, if only this was handled a bit better then I think this lens is exceptional. A lot of the other Nikon 1 gear can’t make all those claims, and some can’t make more than one or two of them. The corners look better but still noticeably behind the center in terms of resolution and sharpness.I plan to either go NEX or m43, both of which have a better lens line up than the CX system (not counting using Nikon lenses with an adapter). Not so much, I discovered — the J5, being last of the line, has held its value surprisingly well, and even the older models are still worth some scratch.
