Yes, Nicole did make love with this character but there is no gritty, steamy sex scenes to read through. Nicole, through no fault of her own, gets swept up into events, and media coverage, that totally upend her life. Nicole Graves is a seemingly "green" private investigator who is given a new job by her boss due to the positive outcomes she has had on previous cases.She went back to the beginning of the book and flipped through, noticing quite a few entries with area codes in other parts of the country. However, The Ransom differs from the previous Nicole Graves novels which were solely about Nicole and told purely from her point of view. Boyarsky's imagination serves up a court case that plays with expectations during an era where we push to believe women, resulting in some real bad baddies whom it feels good to root against. Days later, under remarkably similar circumstances to the case she is investigating, someone near and dear to Nicole is kidnapped and a ransom of her full inheritance is demanded. The statue was a stunning copy of Winged Victory, except that this version was no more than three-feet high, gilded, and—unlike the original—complete with arms and a head. The intruders had disconnected the home’s security cameras, approaching them from behind to avoid being caught on video.At first, it appears to be the work of a serial kidnapping ring, and all she’d have to do is pay the ransom, and her sister would be released. I didn't find this impacted me at all with reading the Ransom, and there was sufficient explanation and detail for the Ransom to stand on it's own.
