About this deal

As the fourth Children's Laureate (2005-2007) she promoted the importance of sharing books, and reading aloud together.

Violet is the most reflective of JW's characters though; the way she observes her mother's relationship to her father and compares it to her own relationship with her brother is very sad and very astute. By completing your purchase, you agree to Audible's Conditions of Use and authorise Audible to charge your designated card or any other card on file. Alongside this, she has an obsession with the fairies in the books written by her favourite author, Casper Dreams—this obsession leads her to create rag-dolls of the fairies to hang in her room. Violeta en general me cae bien y siento que es un personaje con el que es fácil sentirse identificado, yo por lo menos lo he sentido así en varias ocasiones. I feel the plot could have been managed better, with something happening to add the focus onto Violet and Will.I thought it was clever how subtly the author showed bitter realities of the world which won’t affect younger readers but older readers will see it for what it is. The adapter, Vicky Ireland, has provided production notes to indicate how the play can be staged even with minimal resources - plus a lot of ingenuity! The arrival of Jasmine, a new girl at school who immediately befriends Violet, seems like it might change Violet's life for the better and allow her to break free of Will's spell. It was the time when cellphones weren’t ubiquitous yet and people still wrote letters to authors instead of stalking them or talking about/to them online. Violet retreats into fantasies based on the fairy characters created by her favourite author, Caspar Dream.

The brother she has now is creepy and dangerous, always ready to torment her and leave her nerves in tatters. When she argues with a new friend, she destroys her dolls and runs away, trying to track down the author of the imaginary world she yearns to hide within. I'm English, and they were my primary reading material outside of 'Harry Potter' and other fantasy books. I'm seriously confused and definitely will not be recommending this to any of the (under 13) kids I teach! The arrival of Jasmine, a new girl at school who immediately befriends Violet, seemed like it might change Violet's life for the better and allow her to break free of Will's spell.Wilson describes his brilliant snapping green eyes in such a way that the reader really has no choice except to fall in love with him. I also think that this is why she thinks he can fix everything, because she thinks fixing her problems is about as likely as meeting an extremely famous, reclusive author. I still love Violet, I still remember connecting to her so much, she made me feel so much better about being such a book lover – reading books was my escape from the world, and connecting to Violet made that so much more enjoyable. She understandably hasn't got a lot of confidence having always felt so dominated by Will all the time, so has trouble at making friends. I don't know why Violet never stands up to him, why she sticks up for him, why she wants to remain close to him, and why she's so obsessed with him after everything he puts her through.
