About this deal

Our exceptionally rare 25 Year Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Rye release continues the legacy of America’s first whiskey variety (rye) from America’s first whiskey company (Michter’s, originally known as Shenk’s). Each bottle of this small batch rye comes from a single fire-charred new American oak barrel, and is presented at 42.

Born and bred in Kentucky, Michter's US*1 Kentucky Straight Rye is made from select American rye grain that is sheared to maximise the extraction of flavour. One of Michter's most limited production items, Michter’s 10 Year Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Rye continues the legacy of America’s first whiskey variety (rye) from America’s first whiskey company (Michter’s, originally known as Shenk’s).The grandes dames of the portfolio, Michter’s 25-Year Rye and 25-Year Bourbon represent more than a quarter century of maturation in the Distillery’s finest barrels. All spirit at Michter’s is distilled using copper column and pot stills before entering the barrel at 103 proof.

Named to honour Michter’s heritage harkening back to America's first whiskey company, founded in 1753. They only sources wood for their casks that has been air dried between 18 and up to 48 months, leading to less tannins being imparted into the whisky. The whiskey explodes with flavour of rye spice, alongside bursts of black pepper, zesty citrus, sweet butterscotch and warm oak. Crafted using only the finest ingredients and traditional, costly techniques, there's a rich yet mellow character to these gorgeous whiskeys, which are hard to match for sheer enjoyability. You can expect notes of sweet toffee, cherries and subtle spice leading into a creamy finish with a beautifully dry, oaky finish. After a nearly three year absence from the market, Master Distiller Willie Pratt finally gave the green light for the re-release of Michter’s 10 Year Straight Rye in April 2014. Our Michter’s US 1 Kentucky Straight Rye is made from select American rye grain that is sheared to maximize the extraction of flavor from the grain. Every bottle of their excellent rye comes from a single barrel, highlighting the quality of their craft. It's made from select American rye grain that is sheared to maximize the extraction of flavor from the grain.

This is my Second favorite rye on the market; Bold, yet crisp with a remarkable finish and flavour profile. Renowned for rye – America’s oldest whiskey variety – since the earliest days of our history, Michter’s take the production of US1 Kentucky Straight Rye extremely seriously. As John Mariani of Bloomberg points out, these are American Whiskeys whose elegance and complexity will stand up to any Scotch or Cognac drinkers palate. This rye whiskey is an old “Kentucky style” of rye that utilises a higher percentage of corn in the mash bill. This rye has notes of black pepper, mint and eucalyptus and is rounded off with fresh orange peel, butterscotch and sweet toffee.Michter’s 10 year old single barrel Kentucky straight rye continues the legacy of America’s first whiskey variety (rye) company (Michter’s, originally known as Shenk’s). Moreover, rather than use the one size fits all approach of many distillers, Michter’s use the different filtration mediums and techniques best suited to each of their individual whiskey offerings – despite it being time consuming and costly – to highlight each expression’s best qualities. At the Michter’s distillery, they chill filter all of our whiskeys instead of using carbon filtration that can strip out flavor and aroma. If you are looking for a specific bottle requirement it is recommended that you verify with us before making a purchase.
