About this deal

The vineyard is at home Masottina in Conegliano Valdobbiadene DOC famous and is based on the unique micro-climate grapes of the highest quality. The Calmaggiore Prosecco Spumante Brut from the Veneto wine-growing region reveals itself in the glass in a brilliantly shimmering platinum yellow.

The story of Masottina is written in the Prosecco hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, in 2019 listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, established as one of the 56 most beautiful places in Italy and one of the 1121 most spectacular places in the world. Masottina, the third-generation winery that crafted the first-ever Prosecco to crack Wine Spectator’s Top 100 list, is without question one of the most iconic sparkling-wine producers in Italy. As if that wasn't already impressive, further aromas such as lime leaves are added thanks to the ageing in stainless steel.Importantly it all but rendered extinct the traditional ‘colfondo’ style frizzante (less gas, more flavour) that came from the wine’s second ferment taking place in bottle, having had grape must (not sugar) added. His eldest son Adriano (an oenologist who studied at the School of Viticulture and Oenology, in the Historical School of Conegliano) is at the helm of the company together with his sons who carry on the production with dedication and tenacity.

Prosecco grape is distinguished by its aromatics of lemon and green apples, and its subtle flavours of white peaches, freshly picked flowers and notes of yeastiness.

This latter more ‘serious’ style of Prosecco is now gently fizzing again among small artisan producers keen to reveal the true face of their fine terroir; not dissimilar to what’s happened in Champagne in fact, with the emergence of ‘ growers Champagnes’. Fruity on the nose but with a palate that thanks to the glera (90%) and pinot nero grapes gives more tannin than fruit. The company was founded in 1946 by grandfather Epifanio Dal Bianco, who laid the foundations to produce excellent wines. The sparkling wine has a fresh nose, releasing hints of lemon, grapefruit as well as green apple and pear. The elegant Contrada Granda Brut Prosecco Superiore Conegliano Valdobbiadene from Italy is a single-varietal wine made from the Glera grape variety.

They mention that it makes a very acceptable gift, has a pleasant and fruity flavour and does well with any occasion. So it came as no surprise to find them among Decanter’s 2021 Top Classic wines of the year, a list honoring bottles that epitomize a “premium, textbook style of wine. Glera grapes are harvested at the end of September, crushed and pressed and the juice is fermented in stainless steel tanks.

The Dal Bianco family has almost three hundred hectares of vineyards, the majority extend over the hills of Conegliano Valdobbiadene. Thanks to its moderate fruit acidity, Contrada Granda Brut Prosecco Superiore Conegliano Valdobbiadene flatters the palate with a soft sensation without lacking freshness.
