About this deal

Over-scarifying can damage the lawn, so it’s important to follow the recommended guidelines for the frequency of scarifying, the blade-depth and the lawn size.

It features a dual start safety system as well as a thermal cut out that kicks in to prevent it from overheating, folding handles for storage and four depth settings. Not just used a a lawn scarifier, these rakes will give you lots of usage around the flower beds, lawns and even stones. If you aerate during warmer weather, when there isn’t much rain, it can actually make it difficult for plants to hold onto water and can cause soil to dry out. There is nothing worse when using garden machinery than finding that you need extension leads to complete your tasks. For this reason, we suggest you only use this on small lawns, or slightly larger ones if you want to do some muscle work. Some of our machines are already equipped with an aerator roller in addition to the included scarifier roller. Scarifying is a less invasive process as there is minimal penetration of the ground whereas an aerator machine produces holes in the lawn. Designed to help achieve optimal results on the lawn with a fully adjustable scarifying / lawn raking working depth.

So, on a really mossy lawn like I have, I like to set the scarifier on the lowest setting or maybe slightly higher on setting 3. The steel blades of the scarifier penetrate the grass and thoroughly remove thatch as well as moss and plant residues. This allows the Intrepid 384RB scarifier to be navigated to and from the lawn which requires scarifying without potentially causing damage to either the machine or the ground it is travelling over. It’s important to water the lawn thoroughly after scarifying, especially during prolonged periods of hot and/or dry weather. If you only have heavily compacted soil areas in a few spots, you can rectify these with a digging fork.Something else this model comes with I nearly overlooked is the second cassette with spring-loaded steel wire tines. If you want to keep on top of your lawn each year, then I’d highly recommend investing in some sort of scarifier. And it does take some effort to use so that’s why we recommend it if you have only a small lawn or patch of grass to work. To effectively scarify the lawn, we recommend, the petrol scarifier AL-KO Combi Care 38 P Comfort, the electric scarifier AL-KO Combi Care 36 E Comfort or the AL-KO Energy Flex battery SF 4030 scarifier.

It comes with two steel blade and tine attachments: one is intended for scarifying and the other one for raking. You can adjust the depths of the tines as needed from -16mm for a deeper scarify really get into the roots to +20mm for a light raking for surface moss and debris. The Weibang WB384RB Push Petrol Lawn Scarifier has industrial-strength features and a very wide height range that suits all styles of lawn and types of grass.

If you have a small lawn, our round-up of the best hand push mowers may prove helpful, and why not keep edges looking neat with our pick of the best lawn edging. Also known as lawn scarification or dethatching, sacrifying is an essential part of your lawn maintenance routine.

I’ve even leant mine to family and friends who’ve never used one before and they’re shocked at how well it gets up the thatch and moss. Petrol scarifiers: Often the most powerful models, this comes with the inconvenience of using messy, expensive petrol, which, as we have seen in recent times, can be in short supply. By re-seeding areas which have become bare during the scarifying process not only will your lawn look thicker and more attractive, it helps to prevent weeds and moss growing in those areas. I have really enjoyed and been very impressed with this scarifier, its very powerful, effective, and reliable which is why I highly recommend it.This can be compared to a solid, narrow-pronged rake that pierces the ground a little and takes some of the desired lawn felt with it when it is pulled out. If left on the surface of your lawn, thatch won’t decompose well and might even harbour insects and mould. One of the problems is that there’s a layer of thatch – moss, grass clippings and other organic matter – that’s lying between the grass and the soil, stopping these essential elements from getting into the soil and down into the grass roots.
