About this deal

There are heaps of extras too: additional pouches, grenades, and, of course, there are even a few iconic shovels. It ran to a princely 208 pages, with well over 100 of those taken up with datacards, tactics, name tables, and points values.

Elite operatives clash in close confines, engaging in furious firefights and deadly duels, and the fate of billions hangs in the balance. I’ve not had the chance to absorb its every delicious option yet, but this persistent campaign system – obviously built from the same materials as Warhammer 40k 9th Edition’s Crusade mode – is pregnant with potential for fantastic emergent storytelling. Since I’m a bluff old traditionalist, we’ll start at the beginning, with the big, brash, tangerine-coloured box of toys GW is using to fanfare its newest game. What’s next is you pick a couple of weapons options for your sergeant and boom, you field a bunch of Heavy Intercessors and that’s your Kill Team. Even once I had it done as according to the guide, and after some fiddling, the support column still wasn’t quite touching the ground. In close combat we get echoes of early editions of 40k – Each player rolls a number of dice equal to the attacks of one of their weapons, again with standard and critical hits being separated – then starting with the attacker they take turns picking a dice and choosing to either cause damage to their opponent directly or parry one of their opponent’s blows – defence stat is for nothing in brutal close combat if you get stabbed in the face with a rusty blade! We’re promised plenty more stuff for the new edition, including, no doubt, a ton more boxes like this one full of exciting new models and whatever else, as well as exciting individual rules for your factions like those for Orks and Death Korps of Krieg that we have in this launch box that will eventually bring all the factions into the new edition.

The first thing we need to talk about is the absolutely jam-packed box of miniatures that is the Kill Team Octarius set itself – you get a stack of things inside the heavy box! If the Kill Team Roadmap is anything to go by, these rules probably won’t appear until well into the future and will require you to spend more money to obtain. The terrain represents the sorts of environments commonly found throughout the Octarius sector, and presents new challenges for even the most experienced Kill Team commanders. In this Kill Team Octarius review we will be looking at the contents of the set, checking out the new plastic Kommandos and Death Korps of Krieg along with the Ork Scenery, and having a dive into the new rules system and sharing our thoughts on it compared to previous editions.

None of these pieces of terrain, however, have obvious moulds or indentations to guide where you are supposed to attach these supports.
