A gripping, piercing and murky read and one that, no doubt, will amass its own large following on publication.The premise was so interesting, the story had me guessing the whole way through - every time I thought I’d worked something out I was thrown off track again. As the persona Samantha has created for herself starts to crumble, she decides to revisit her old friend and the past. She has a following of millions of her "girls" on social media and encourages them to speak their truth.

She is at the top of her game and has just published another book, one in a line of successful bestsellers. Referencing songs, musicians, guitar makes and styles in such a way it sent me off to google on a couple of occasions so that I could envision it in the story properly. The only problem is, that Sam has just written about the encounter in a recent article as evidence of her sexual awakening. There is a compelling scene later in the book where Sam is meeting with Shakti’s board of directors, mostly old, white guys.The best friend, who has come forward with her allegations and is obviously not well, literally only suffers for trying to speak her truth and will continue to do so now that the truth is finally out in the world. Lisa, Sam’s childhood friend, in particular mostly lacked substance, becoming almost instantly forgettable.
