About this deal

This isnt an easy book to read, mostly because at times the author seems lost on which direction to take, so quotes from everyone who knew her pop up all over the place, slowing down the pace and making one a tiny bit bored.

I was really drawn into the book, picturing the setting of her life, the photos within the book really helped you to be drawn into her world. The design team have also worked for worldwide brands including: Nickelodeon, Penguin Books, Renault, MTV, Virgin and Levis. It intrigued me to read that Coco Chanel’s favourite novel was ‘Wuthering Heights’, and that the austerity of the convent was a major influence on her design. Her designs were known for their comfort and simplicity, and she once famously said, "Fashion fades, only style remains the same.

It’s a slim volume, but even here we get details we don’t get elsewhere, including a full chapter on the musical Coco, which opened on Broadway in 1969 starring Katharine Hepburn (tellingly, Chanel’s first choice for the role was the much younger Hepburn: Audrey). We also share information about your use of our site with our social media, advertising and analytics partners. Our unique prints are printed with thick 310gsm archival art paper with a matt finish, which gives crisp lines and a wide tonal range of colour.

It's probably pretty interesting if you're a huge Chanel fan and/or really into fashion, but I'm neither of these. She studied Visual Communication at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, and illustration at the University of the Arts Berlin, where she is based now. This book is written as well and as thrillingly as any number of fiction novels I have read lately, but it's all true. Many books, movies and even musicals have been written about the woman Coco Chanel, all claiming to have a greater insight into what made this creative masterpiece of a woman work.I liked the incursion into the actual biography of Gabrielle Chanel, including the way the author tries to trace her steps through the web of fake data the woman liked to provide about herself. Made with 100% recycled cotton, the paper we use is one of the most environmentally friendly papers. It's always a good thing when an author attempts to avoid speculation, even if not always successful. The way the individual chapters are divided show you different sides of this very talented and unique woman. Gabrielle Chanel was born in a poorhouse; her parents were unmarried and, according to Chanel, her mother Jeanne died of tuberculosis when Chanel was aged six.
