About this deal

There’s one final recording method too which involves touching any encoder while playing a note — its value is captured into the step. Even if you only use pattern 1 in each of the two melodic sequencers and drum sequencer, with transposing, muting steps, and randomization, you can go really far.

One thing I’d like is to be able to change the drum er pad channel assignments without using a computer, but tbh I use Mozaic to do all my midi mappings so its no big deal for me. Here, you have 16 discrete drum sequences that can be composed in real-time or via the step sequencing row.You will hear a constant drone coming out of your modular, and it puts out a constant voltage that transposes your notes too heh. If you do any audio processing in the analog domain, whether you rely on a large-format console or just a modest rack of gear, you'll realize quickly how powerful and easy-to- use these half-width,. There are also connections for MIDI and USB, allowing the BeatStep Pro to control MIDI hardware and soft synths, respectively. Immediate access to an unlimited number of options means your performances will always be fresh and exciting.

After looking at a couple of small boxes that do just that (converting midi to cv/gate) I stumbled upon the Arturia Beatstep Pro. The first is a small ribbon controller that allows you to drop in rolls and stutter effects, with different results based on your finger position and how you slide it along the ribbon. You can mute or unmute individual steps or entire sequences, and you can transpose sequences on the fly, independently or together. Moving on, once I got the BeatStep Pro powered and connected, my next hurdle was also minor, but I'll note it anyway. Use pre-programmed patterns or record them in real-time, generate stunning fills with the touch sensitive looper/roller strip and add some unpredictability with the Randomness/Probability dedicated controls.

Some drum machines expect a separate MIDI channel for each sound- kick on channel 1, snare on channel 2, etc.
