Gary is an ordinary pig, who hangs out with his friends Carl (who is a fish) and Brooklyn (who is a bat).Bronnie is so lovely with the boys and we also felt that having a man enthusing about the books set a great example. It was the same superhero outfit, but as time went on, I realized there weren’t a ton of groan-worthy hamster puns, so I started dabbling with different animals.

After finishing WINK – a book I loved writing, but a process that involved a lot of time reliving past awfulness – I wanted to bring on the fun. The first is Batpig's origin story and the second involves juggling multiple responsibilities - Babysitter, friend, superhero and keeping his secret, a secret! It was such a pleasure to meet you both, and I really appreciated how smoothly and professionally you ran everything. The third book in a brilliantly funny and skilfully rendered commercial young graphic novel series, with two separate stories in each book. With a love of books, videogames, animals, art and of course Strawberries there's always something on my mind I just love to discuss. I also enjoyed how characters from Gary's regular life are the ones who become the villains he must fight. He and Brooklyn work on honing these together, and don't tell Carl because he doesn't keep secrets well.

The back story explains how Gary Yorkshire, a normal pig living in the city ends up becoming a superhero with powers after being bitten by his friend Brook the bat. This is a book that absolutely should not be ignored by teachers as it is a perfect text to engage reluctant readers into the joy of reading.
