About this deal

A fascinating examination can be seen between how Miller and Varley handle this sequence and how the scene was then handled by Zack Snyder in the hit 2007 film, 300. The gist of it is that by the time Marvel was interested in having us work on the story, Frank was off doing Dark Knight and I was off doing X-Factor. Written and drawn by Frank Miller by Frank Miller (with inspired inking by Klaus Janson and beautiful watercolors by Lynn Varley), Batman: The Dark Knight revolutionized the entire [archetype] of the super hero.

Hard Boiled is a wild and extremely fun ride, but it's also an insightful examination of a sickness in our society that we don't like to confront. Standing between Greece and this tidal wave of destruction are a tiny detachment of but three hundred warriors. In 480 BC, King Leonidas of Sparta gathers 300 of his best men to fight the upcoming Persian invasion.

I say good because there is more than a hint of fiction scattered amongst the nonfiction, but that makes the story come alive.

Instead, we are being told a story, a tale as told by the one Spartan who was sent back and I can imagine telling this tale around a campfire. The modern crime comic era started a few years earlier with two releases: the high-profile Sin City by Frank Miller and the independent Stray Bullets by David Lapham. Frank Miller began his career in comics in the late 1970s, first drawing then writing Daredevil for Marvel Comics, creating what was essentially a crime comic disguised as a superhero book. A worthwhile story to be told, though the omission of the Thespians and other abuses of artistic license mark the fault of Miller's sensationalism.

They were the last along with a small force of Thespians to stand and fight when the rest had retreated),fought in armor. It was very much a product of the time I did it, but it was the best story I ever had my hands on, and I did my very best by it.It's a fine take on the scene, but it's interesting that now, Gerard Butler's Leonidas is screaming "THIS IS SPARTA! The issue's] splash page was the first time Miller's [rendition of] Daredevil appeared in a Marvel story. This time around, we had back twenty-five years to May 1998 for the debut of Frank Miller and Lynn Varley's 300. Miller illustrated the covers for the first twelve issues of First Comics' English-language reprints of Kazuo Koike and Goseki Kojima's Lone Wolf and Cub. Breccia, again recovered Archived December 9, 2021, at the Wayback Machine Article by Juan Sasturain.

Hollywood feeding frenzies of this sort are, of course, nothing new: Remember the glut of John Grisham–style legal thrillers in the 1990s?So yeah, despite the historical inaccuracies and the thick coat of pathos everywhere, I enjoyed myself very much and understand why Frank Miller's work usually gets a lot of praise. During a break in the fighting, Xerxes meets with Leonidas and offers wealth and power in exchange for his surrender. Three hundred kick-ass Spartan warriors stand against hordes of Persian invaders under the command of King Leonidas.
