About this deal

Additionally, the dynamics in the bass are very good for the DT 1990 Pro; they have a very good punch and slam quality. It doesn’t invite you to sit back and relax, it makes you sit up straight and think about what is happening, and this can get very fatiguing if it is not something you want to do at that moment. However with DT1990 I can very confidently and clearly identify the rice shaker and the amount of rice being shaked :) it is remarkable in identifying the details and you immedietely knows if track is mastered good or wrong because with so low distortion and clear details you hear the difference in mastering of the tracks so much, that you will hate the wrongly recorded songs.

Taking a step back, you can fully appreciate the overall build even further thanks to the padded leather headband and removable cable on the bottom of the left ear cup. for all applicationsUncompromising benchmark-setting studio headphones for sophisticated listening, mixing and mastering. Playing around with the layering of different bass related instruments, I find I can easily locate and edit each layer. Here is where I might go off track in comparison to many of the other reviews regarding these headphones. This is the latest iteration of the DT design, with more touches of refinement to this tried-and-true design. The DT 990 Pro was already a very well put together headphone with the durability of the tank, and thankfully, the same is true for the DT 1990 Pro. You can sit in them for long hours without any sort of pain or headache and that’s all because of huge amount of foam in headband as well as very big velour pads. Sure the DT1990 is marketed as "reference headphones for mixing and mastering (open)" as per their site. This “shimmer” is what I think contributes the most to the perception that the DT 1990 Pro is a highly-detailed headphone. Despite the DT1990's treble not triggering my ears, I still find the treble overly sharp that renders the consonant range and instruments hitting this region as unnatural - thereby ruining the timbre of vocals whenever this treble region is covered in a track.

For the listening tests I used music from a wide variety of genres including Rock, Jazz, Classical, Acoustic, Hip-Hop, and latin. While we’re talking about the performance of the DT 1990 Pro, we should talk about its 250 ohm impedance and amp pairings. Moving to the Mids, I find the mids to be very accurate and pretty neutral, except for a slight boost where the upper bass moves into the lower mids.

The ear pads get a little warm after a while—as you might expect from giant velour ear pads like these. smells like chinese shoes :( Hope that smell will come off eventually but instead of two cables in box I would like one better braided cable or something, so I think I will change the cable later too. Therefore, they sound quite musical, the high end (8-12k) on the 1990s is boosted so it sounds all crispy clear and beautiful, but you need a good reference monitor to ground you to reality.

The resolution is so good that you might actually turn around while listening to the beginning of Radiohead’s Daydreaming because you’ll think the pair of indistinct voices speaking are coming from behind you. My only concern is that, after long sessions, the heat around the ears can become a little bit annoying, but it's not a major issue since its root cause can be related to lots of different factors. These headphones share some similarities with their predecessors, but for the most part, the DT 1990 PRO are better in every meaningful way. This is not "exposing weaknesses in the ancillary gear", it is an exposed weakness in the gear (DT1990) itself. With the bass-heavy B pads mids sound more recessed than we usually like, and while switching to the A pads brings the mids forward a bit the DT 1990 Pro still won’t have the lush mids of the Sennheiser HD 600 or Grado RS2 .

Sound stage is huge, brightness and clarity are first citizens, along with high transient speed and good resolution.I have not had extensive periods with many Beyerdynamic headphones but this is something it is easily spotted even in brief listening sessions or quick tests. These cans job is to show every single aspect of what you gonna throw at them and they are very good at it. Just to be clear, when I am listening to music for pleasure, I am listening to it for my own pleasure, therefore “how the artist intended it” is something that takes a back seat (if you want to know more on my thoughts about this subject of EQ, you can read this post: https://achoreviewsenglish. As previously noted, the bass and mids really do not need that much EQ–for those regions it is mostly fine-tuning.
