About this deal

Remove both gear change cables (see below) from the gearbox by pressing in the centre of the nylon ball joint retainers and lifting; then remove the retaining clips on the outer cables. In most cars, you can’t actually see the screen wash reservoir level, only the cap for it. You will know it will need topping up if the nozzles don’t spray anything or if your car tells you. How to top up screen wash

If your clutch fluid has dropped dramatically, then it’s likely that your clutch is going to engage at a different point too. The usual result is that you’ll have to fully depress the clutch pedal to disengage the clutch, which is typically far different than your usual engagement point. The other actuator design is becoming increasingly common in modern vehicles. The clutch is actually housed in a bearing that fits around the transmission’s input shaft. When the clutch pedal is pressed, it actuates a hydraulic throwout bearing that pushes against the clutch diaphragm to disengage your clutch. Where the hydraulic clutch line meets the engine/transmission, you’ll find one of two things: either a spot on the transmission with a bleeder nipple, or a separate braided line with a bleeder valve dangling from the assembly. (That’s because of the different clutch actuator designs we talked about earlier.)Clutch fluid level should not fall as the clutch itself wears. It might actually rise. If the level is dropping you need to find the leak. Lightly smear a small amount of high melting point grease to the input shaft, and then mount the new clutch plate on the input shaft which will ensure the clutch plate is correct in fitment. Evenly distribute the grease, remove the clutch plate and wipe off any excess grease. Using a clutch alignment tool, mount the new clutch on the flywheel, making sure the clutch plate is located correctly with ‘Gearbox Side’ or ‘Getriebe Seite’ facing the gearbox and tighten in an even and sequential manner (see below). Remove both front wheels, front hub nuts and the N/S/F wheel arch liner and remove the inner driveshaft gaiter retaining bolts (see below).

At this point it is good practice to change the clutch fluid in the hydraulic system. This will remove any contaminated fluid that could cause bleeding problems or even premature failure in the hydraulic system. This is carried out simply by allowing the fluid to flow through the system. Remembering to keep the reservoir topped up, also open the bleed valve to confirm correct operation before we commence bleeding. If the reservoir is empty, you’ll have to bleed the brakes. Since most modern cars have some sort of advanced braking system, then you will likely have to take it to a professional to get this done properly. The good news is, the process of changing your hydraulic clutch fluid is dang-near identical to bleeding brakes. Better still, you don’t have to deal with multiple lines going to each caliper/wheel cylinder, so the process is probably going to be a whole lot easier than a brake job. There are essentially two types of hydraulic clutch actuator designs that you’ll likely come across. First, there’s the pushrod style, which is basically just a piston that moves a linkage attached to a clutch fork. Pushing the clutch pedal actuates the pushrod, moving the cylinder and engaging the clutch fork (kind of like a traditional all-mechanical clutch). the clutch reservoir is shared with the brake reservoir, as they take the same fluid , if you look on the reservoir tank you'll see a rubber hose about halfway down that runs off the pedal area - this is the clutch feed

Fluid Reservoirs

Master cylinders are available in a choice of bore sizes which can alter the amount of braking force and fluid displacement which are applied when the brake pedal is pressed. This is not only important for providing sufficient pressure through the braking system to obtain the optimum braking performance from the installed hardware, but can also have an impact on the feel of the brake pedal for the driver. It’s worth mentioning that you can’t leave the reservoir open too long, and the same goes for the container with the new fluid. This is because the fluid will absorb moisture from the air and can ultimately cause corrosion in the brake system. How to top up brake fluid In many car models, the clutch master cylinder uses the brake fluid, so they use a shared reservoir. Therefore, if you can’t find the clutch fluid reservoir, it is most likely using the brake fluid. 2. Soft or Spongy Clutch Pedal
