About this deal

Like with the quests in Age of Sigmar, Spec Ops also features some overarching objectives that will take several games to achieve, but earn you upgrades, equipment, experience and other benefits for finishing them. The Veteran Guardsmen’s Grand Offensive sees them looking to break the deadlock in a larger battle by striking at the weak points in the enemy lines. will let you upgrade a normal hit to a critical any time you retain more than one normal hit, and Krump ‘Em! In such circumstances, you must be able to draw an imaginary, unobstructed straight line 1mm wide from the head of the active operative’s miniature to the point you would select. Adding an extra level of strategy to this is the fact that when you active an operative you can set them to “Engage” or “Conceal”- Engage simply allows them to make more actions, this is essentially the standard state of your units.

For each normal save they make they can negate a normal hit, for 2 normal saves they can negate a critical hit and for each critical save they can negate a normal or critical hit. I already have units for my first kill team, Warpcoven which is too complex for my small newbie brain, and Gellerpox which seems straightforward enough and is super fun to paint so far! These miniatures are supplied unpainted and require assembly – we recommend using Citadel Plastic Glue and Citadel paints. The detail on the models is very good and I'm looking forward to putting paint on everything at some point.Engagement Range is mutual, therefore operatives are within each other’s Engagement Range if one of them is Visible to and within of the other.

In addition, an operative cannot perform this action in the same activation in which it performed the Fall Back or Charge action. The Attacker then selects one of these forces: that force is the Relief Force and will not start the battle on the killzone, but will arrive later during the battle. The Base of Operations is fun and works like the strongholds in Age of Sigmar with you being able to upgrade the facilities such as being able to build a Med Bay where you can potentially save your injured operatives or build an engineering bay that can be used to create a temporary fortification in the drop zone your are headed into. To randomly determine a Shadow Operations: Octarius War mission, one player rolls one D3 to determine one of the tables below, then the other player rolls one D3 to determine the mission from that table.

If a friendly operative controls the Relic objective marker at the end of the battle, you score an additional 2VPs (score 3VPs instead if a friendly operative is carrying the Relic objective marker). Just like with the card components above these are an integral part of the game – so I hope this is available separately, if only for the opportunity to paint your gauges and barricades to match your army!

In close combat we get echoes of early editions of 40k – Each player rolls a number of dice equal to the attacks of one of their weapons, again with standard and critical hits being separated – then starting with the attacker they take turns picking a dice and choosing to either cause damage to their opponent directly or parry one of their opponent’s blows – defence stat is for nothing in brutal close combat if you get stabbed in the face with a rusty blade! In addition, an operative cannot perform this action in the same activation in which it performed the Normal Move or Fall Back action. The defender then rolls a number of dice equal to their defence value – this may be more or less dice than the number of times they have been hit too! The ‘artefact’ in the Ork scrapheap might instead be a trove of long-lost spirit stones your Asuryani kill team is desperate to recover. In addition to be harder to kill thanks to his 3 additional wounds and 4+ save, he can choose between a pair of nasty close combat weapons in the big choppa or the power klaw and gets to add 1 to the APL of a single Kommando operative within 6” every time he activates. The smaller pieces of scatter terrain are the same ones first seen in Speedfreeks – but they still stand up today and look great alongside these new terrain pieces! In the meantime, if the Confidant isn’t the Leader, it can choose a friendly model to activate after it does, letting you line up key actions in sequence with your team. At the end of the battle, you score 4VPs for each objective marker in the enemy’s drop zone that was sapped. You can also give a model a Chronometer for 3EP, which lets you re-roll the initiative dice once per game.
