For which of these pedagogies is there a robust evidence base evaluating the effectiveness of the pedagogy in generating student engagement? Our schools can demonstrate that almost everyone, regardless of background or starting point is achieving higher academic standards. A shared understanding of learner progression and attainment is integral to realising the ambitions of Curriculum for Wales. To support the wellbeing of all, including teachers, support staff and learners, we are funding schools and settings to extend and improve counselling provision, to support targeted interventions and extend professional learning. Our Form 6 Peer Support volunteers facilitate a paired reading programme with individual children identified as benefitting from additional reading practice in the Junior Years and Form 1 and 2.

Our carefully designed and consciously crafted Transition process enables young people with opportunities to visit our school building, try out their new uniform and engage with our school curriculum, ethos, staff and facilities. These learner entitlement statements are linked to the national framework created by the Careers Development Institute and are designed to share with pupils, parents/carers and the school community what they should expect from the careers programme as well as what is expected of them. We have legislated to make student and staff welfare an initial and ongoing condition of registration for tertiary education providers, ensuring that the CTER takes this forward when the new system is in operation.
